What have you done to your XS today?

Spent an eternity tring to reshape the chrome headlight rim on my xs, its so rigid where I need to straighten it

I just rebuilt the vacuum petcock on the 81
On the outside portion of the petcock there is that wave washer in there
Well it fell out before I could tell which way to re install it
It looks like putting it either way will work ?

As long as I'm on here what do you guys use for a blanking plate when you pull off the petcock
I found a piece of rubberized ? plastic to use as the gasket but it's not going to be a permanent gasket
I've got aluminum flat stock just don't know what kind of gasket I can keep on re using

I used epdm roofing membrane clamped with the screw and a short piece of wall strap drilled to match the tap screw spacings. Only temporary while I phosphoric acid stripped the insides.

Can that handle gas for long ?
I doubt and old piece of innertube would work
This time around I used vinegar to soak the tank so the gasket material wasn't an issue

Thinish gasket paper works. After all, that's whats on the float bowl.

Cork gasket material works. Thinnish material might or might not work. Float bowls are flat... stamped out gas tanks... not so much

Today I made crash bars for my XS750F ( sorry guys not a 650 owner ). Installed oil radiator which 750 originally don't have it. I modified also other things, and will post the pictures soon.

Just successfully used white vinegar to deal with rust scale in my fuel tank, excellent result, after flushing coated with Caswell Dragons Blood liner.
very happy with the result.
I was skeptical of claims regarding vinegar but after much research I thought I would give it a try.
I've reused the vinegar on a very crusty YL1 tank and the results are extremely impressive, I will not hesitate to use this method again .
Sorry about the lack of pictures but there is heaps of info via web searches and YouTube videos and it really works, best thing is its nontoxic, reusable and only takes a few days to work.
