No progress with XS650 stuff recently. Today never saw the temperature rise above minus five Celsius (23 Fahrenheit for the people counting the old fashioned way). Took delivery of a Chinesium solder bath today. That's going to be a great help when I eventually get round to fixing the cables for the ER5 carburettor conversion.

Is the gold coloured cup removable or is it fixed to the assembly? If removable, that may be a good way to melt lead for future projects.

IMG_7668.jpegIMG_7669.jpegIMG_7670.jpegimage.jpgWhen tearing down the XS1 it was cool to see inside the cases which have probably been sealed since the factory. Old style cases with no starter mechs or castings, old school filter in perfect shape. Just seeing the early differences is cool. Was Miyoshie the original gasket supplier?

Ordered a pair of Commando peashooter mufflers today. These are made in 1 3/8" or 1 5/8" inlet but I have asked for them to be made to fit exactly on the 40mm Yamaha down pipes. As these are hand made in the UK, you can have pretty much what you want. Spent far, far too much on this motorcycle. But that's just what happens. I suppose.

Very nice. What is the name of the supplier? I need a new muffler for my SR500.

Please let me know what you think of them when you try them out. I too have been through the search process for some of these for my all original 75. I want to put a pair of these on to preserve my originals because I not only like the look of these Peashooters but LOVE the sound of them based on the few sound bites I have found on them.

Indeed, I will. As time marches on, we have fewer and fewer options for good XS650 mufflers. There's another company in the UK manufacturing >76 replica mufflers. It was a toss up between those and the modified Commando mufflers. I went with the Commando peashooter in the end. It's going to be about two or three weeks for the mufflers to be made and chrome plated. I will feedback how they are, for sure.

Nice work Vic!!
Not to rain on your parade, but I tried the "blue" LED meter and it was unreadable in daylight... even shielding it with your hand. I finally got a red one and it's much easier to see. Have you had it outside to see how readable it is?

No I haven’t Jim. I’m not too worried though. It was an $8.00 investment. The one I had on there before had a white display. I cheaped out and bought the blue one. If the blue is as bad as you report I’ll swap it out with a white one. Knowing me I’ll probably order one tonight. Lol.
