What have you done to your XS today?

Nice, where did you get the crankcase breather from? I like the angled hose barb. What is the hose barb diameter?
Thanks. Heiden Tuning. Afraid I didn't yet measure the hose fitting. I'm guessing 12mm. The hexagons in the screw heads are 5mm, so the fitting looks about 12mm-ish.

No idea Bazz, enlighten us
Ok as nobody wants to play my game
It's a jig to pull the filler cap fitting in the tank upwards a bit
The tank I am using is a 1930s AJW foxhound tank and sometime in the last 90 years or so the filler cap bayonet fitting has somehow sunk!
When you put the cap on and turn it it was touching the tank
I made this puller so it would drop through the filler cap hole
The rods are to stop the bolt from turning
And the slot to allow it to drop through the filler cap
It worked perfectly
Luckily

Upgraded my master cylinder for the front brake to 11mm from 13mm that I bought from Mikes XS 10 years ago. While on ebay, came accross this brand new 11mm unitn from a mystery manufacturer. It is smaller in size, but accomodates the existing lever and the brake lever sensor. The only adaptor I need is for the 8mm RH to 10mm LH threads for the mirror. This 11mm works much better on the single piston caliper on my 78E.

Good to know. I’m waiting for USPS to bring me another rebuild kit. It’s coming all the way from the left coast. I’m anxious to get this brake functioning again.

Another hour in the garage this morning doing bits on the 650. A balmy 14 Celsius again here today. I had to make a new rear wheel spindle spacer a few months ago as tightening the spindle nut was preloading the sprocket side wheel bearing. Finally got the rear wheel back in this morning. Will test tightening the spindle nut next time I'm in there to confirm I've fixed the problem. Then just set the brake pedal and chain tension and we're done there.

Got a few of my XS/TX 650 modified often quickly cobbled together tools for the occasion a little more organized and marked….A final 75b “keeper” w/a chair,A final 72 XS 2 “keeper” w/a chair.

So to use my 10mm LH threded right mirror, I ended up needing a 8mm LH male to 10mm LH female adaptor (!). if anyone needs one, I have a spare you can have for the price of postage

Real life and weather has got in the way of bike stuff today. However I took delivery of a set of Peashooter mufflers this morning. I ordered a pair of Commando mufflers from Armours, down in Bournemouth in the south of the UK. As they're all hand made you can request pretty much what you want. I had the inlet to the mufflers made in 40mm to suit the 650 headers without adapters.

First impression is they're very nicely made with good thick chrome. They came with two 2mm thick partly made stainless steel hangers that I'll need to adapt and finish. Also, bolts, nuts and two muffler to header clamps of the right size. Overall I'm pretty impressed and it's a big bonus that folks are still making these in England and chrome plating them. Just about every rule and regulation is against you these days and most shops closed long ago. Well done Armours for that.

First thoughts on fitting them are that they're about 150mm shorter than I expected. Serves me right, I should have asked before ordering. And the captive mounts on the mufflers are maybe 120 to 130mm too far forward. They'll fit, I just need to get creative. I think they're going to look very good.

Picture of one muffler unwrapped, the other still wrapped. The packaging was excellent.

Got me thinking, IBALT. The universal Dunstall-style silencers on Miss November have a bad habit of falling off. So I'm intending to measure up and have better brackets made. But looking at what you just bought and they are happy to make dimensions to order?
Not 100% sure what you mean? For context, I asked them could they make their Commando peashooter mufflers with a 40mm inlet? The answer was that they can do pretty much what you ask. There's a nominal charge because, obviously, their drawings need revising for the shop to do the job. Again for context, if I had bought standard Commando peashooter mufflers, having an adaptor made to fit the 650 would probably cost more than Armours charged me for changing the inlet size.

With the benefit of hindsight, I would have asked a few more questions before ordering. But I'm happy enough.

I actually didn't know that they would send those part made hangers and inlet clamps. There's going to be a bit of work to mount these. But I'll do it OK.

If you know what you want, I would just ask them. I expect they'll say yes. Hope that helps.
