In my quest for different handlebars I came across an ad on FBMP advertising some different front ends. Had a pile of handlebars for $5 ea. OK if they don’t work no harm. He left them on his front porch for me to pick up and I ended up with both controls and brake set-up. I’m pretty sure the MC is off an XV700 or thereabouts which would make it a 14mm. A little bigger than what I’d like but the bars may work out OK.

Lumpy Rides Again! It took three months but I finally went for a 30 mile test ride with zero problems. First were all the supposed repairs that the last owner did from carburetors to clutch that needed redoing. Waiting on parts for each problem slowed things down some as well as lack of spare time. Sorting the clutch took several tries and I admit it could have been done first time around if I did my homework better, bottom line the pull is easy and it works smooth as butter. Lumpy got his name from his gas tank and all the dents and bumps in it. Luckily I have a near perfect tank to replace it with when I get to sorting out the cosmetics and different mufflers are on the list.

Started working on a "breather box" thingy to replace the stock cast piece. I still have to add the 1/8-27 NPT hole but I can take that back to work and do that.

The old 72 is almost ready. Replaced all the trans bearings and seals. I'll be bringing it to the VYR next week. Hope to see the old gang there. This may be my last venture as I would like to sell both bikes. Why? My hip hurts after 20 minutes of riding. Sucks getting old, and I'm getting paranoid anyway. Let's pray for good weather. Looks nice! And the brackets are key to avoid vibration self-destruct...nice to incorporate a real stop for the centerstand also.
Do you happen to have a pic of your bike with the Delkevic installed? I'm trying to decide what to start out with on my bike, the Delkevic or an NOS Mac 2 into 2 I have. I lean towards your comment regarding it not looking quite right on a traditional vertical twin. But that said, I've also seen some nice looking bikes with 2 into 1's as well. Thanks.

Harley's are mostly all right-sided, I am also used to many 4-cylinder bikes having right side exhaust only, especially older ones, including mine, but the "bareness" of the left side of an XS is somehow slightly troubling to me on some level.

100% agreed. The Delkevic is well constructed, fits perfectly, sounds very good, the bike runs well.Yes, and that's the issue isn't it.

But it only looks OK 50% of the time?
I think it's the ugly frame. Without exhaust, my eye is drawn to it.
A chrome chainguard would probably help, but not cure the issue.
To clarify....For sure, it's not good looking like a Rickman or a Spondon. Not even close!
This part of the frame is ugly. It was addressed with the Heritage Special models of '82/83.
I didn't mean the chainguard would "cure" the frame's aesthetic deficiencies, just that a little brightness might elevate it a bit.
Edit: On my XS-2 (2nd bike I ever owned) in approx '74-'75 I put an original Dunstall 2 into 1 into 2 on it. Great sound, looked cool (and solved the "open" side issue), not sure there was really any performance gain (but refer to the first two points!), but a big drawback was that the centerstand had to be removed to fit it. I remember being somewhat sorry I lost the centerstand.

Took the chopper for it's first ride in about a month....fired on the 2nd kick. Need to clean it up a bit for The Night of the Troglodytes show at The Race of Gentlemen next weekend. Have 1 or 2 nagging oil leaks to still try and fix...may be chain tensioner gasket...or could be that pesky small rear head gasket bolt area between cylinders which would suck.
Anyway also finished up a custom matching helmet today for the bike....wanted something with kinda the same funky 70s vibe. First time I've messed with lettering or water slide graphics...I'd say I'm 90% happy with it.
