What have you done to your XS today?

I took my seat to an upholstery shop in Boise with a goal of having a new piece of foam made. Gentleman told me “this foam is great, just needs a little repair”. Anyway, he did a great job. If you’re in Boise and need upholstery “Andrews Upholstery”. I had the pan powder coated and refurbed the trim piece ahead of time.
Wow, looks super- awesome!!

Outstanding job, looks better than factory built.

PMA stator left me stranded 45 min away from home. Wired up a M12 battery to get back (killed the battery in the process…). Opened up the bike to find the magnet wire -> strand wire was super poorly built and falling apart. I barely tugged them and it snapped off. The windings on the stator look terrible too. I’ve hand wound better stators…

Soldered on some new leads and ran it to my bike and now it works great.

Decided I wanted to fire up the XS. I felt that it was running lean last year and on longer rides in the heat it just seemed like it was feeling it.
I put in one size up main jet and raised the needle back to the center slot (lowered the clip from 2nd from top to 3rd from top (center).
Put the carb back in and hooked everything back up and just did a quick start and it started up on the 2nd click. (I don't like to run the starter more than 3 seconds at a time). Idle was pretty high and had to adjust the idle stop screw back down. I'll set mixture and sync tomorrow or this weekend. I stored it over the winter with Ethanol free and some star tron additive but put some seafoam in the tank to clear out any gas tarnish that would have been left in there (if anything). There is an antique bike show next Sunday. If I have the time this week I"ll do some clean up and polishing. I have never put any bike in a contest but I figure someone has to come in last.

Finally got my bashed in tank top de dented thanks to Dented.ca in Edmonton Alberta. they did a great job as it had fallen against a 4x4 post in the fence behind it but further up the driveway. Also new sprockets, chain, carb sync, fork oil and some more tlc. The old grey mare turned 50 this year. Got out to the 1st A & W bike night for the NORAL chapter of the CVMG. Had about 50 bikes out last eve. Spent the afternon today riding out to see an old buddy
restoring a 1937 Indian Chief from a basket case.

Autoroute Special Gets Another Look
Taking a fresh look at this one as it's time to get 'er dun. Got spark pretty quick and was enthusiastic, but cranking it did not produce any noise. At least I got the direction lights working.
I'll try tomorrow with a known good set of carbs and a real gas tank.

Finished putting everything back together and it works! Looks bratty enough for me. Was a fun project to complete with a teen that has no mechanical experience. The look on his face when it started was priceless. Thanks for all the help, advice and ideas along the way, everyone!

Now we wait for the 120kmph winds to die down...
