Probably a good idea, if handling is something you value.. . . Going to leave the original neck gusset for now . . .
I finally found the time to take the bike out, I had the time to put on all the clothes check everything prior to riding and I have to report that the bike runs much better without the tall gearing. I think that somebody must have over geared it for some sort of tuning effect. Other things I found with the bike were overly heavy clutch springs which were coil bound and causing clutch drag, over sized main jets causing it to run rich throughout its range so I conclude that it was all down to overly enthusiastic tuning without any actual experience. The bike runs very nicely, will crawl along happily at 20mph in first gear( but makes a lot of noise doing it). On completion of my ride I put the bike onto its centre stand and let it cool off a little and then drained the float chambers in order to keep the fuel in the tank rather than evaporating in the carbs and blocking the jets. It's running on one year old E5 which dispells the tripe about old gasoline. I always keep the fuel tank full so there is less room for air. I shall buy some more E5 this year and syphon the old E5 into a can to pour it into the car. So far, I have yet to encounter issues with modern fuel. Oh the tick over....slow and steady. I used a dwell meter and timing light to set the points and ignition and it works very well.I have had to lower the overall gear ratio. I had a 31 tooth sprocket fitted , however the bike wouldnt run properly at 20mph. In various areas of UK, people are having the speed limit set to 20mph whilst forgetting that the majority of vehicles on the road just arent designed to run at such low speeds. With the 31 tooth sprocket fitted, the bike wouldnt run cleanly at 20 mph, it was ok to run at 15mph in first but needed to run at 25 in second. So....back to a 33tooth rear sprocket so the bike runs nicely at 20 mph. Something which the people who live in these deserted village streets dont fully comprehend its that my bike is noisier for longer and creates more air polution at 20mph than 30 mph. I do understand the need for lower limits in urban areas, however, I dont see which lives are saved in the rural areas where these limits are imposed. In my own village, I cant recall when I last saw somebody cross the road and still they're complaining to the council about speed limits without realising that the people who scream through the village doing 60 in a 30 limit would be doing 60 in a 20 limit instead. So...new chain and sprockets and I've fitted a chain oiler which will increase polution by dropping more oil on the road ( as well as my rear wheel rim and my chain). I suspect that some of the moaners are a lot more interested in the sound of their own voice rather than doing any actual good in the world.

battery impact gun, always works.stubborn clutch adjustment lock nut
Punch the Bold, the Screwdriver in, with a woodhammer or simelar ... give them a "wake up" callI need to look into that as well. Any suggestions on a stubborn clutch adjustment lock nut? using a
good boxend but don't want to damage the phillips slots fighting with it.

Pretty sure I saw something online which said it is possible to fit the locking nut or the worm gear the wrong way round making it difficult to get a socket on it because it is further recessed. Hope this helps.
