What have you done to your XS today?

Engine in yesterday, just putting bits on but away tomorrow for a week for work.
If you haven't finally torqued the engine bolts, this is a good time to fit the carbs - remove enough bolts to pivot the engine forward and it's easy-peasy, not so much once everything else is in place.

A bit askew, a bit crooked—one of the posts is a bit out of place.
But it seems to work. scrap metal, apart from some flat iron

maybe need to have a lock for the rotation too
a pin maybe

get tired and head to the sofa

Hang in there Jan You got the idea fabbed it up and it's doing the job You designed it for. Cross drilling for a pin is a good idea.you good drill one for vertical jobs and another 90 degrees from the vert. for horizontal and be good for all jobs.

My New XSD Project
It's been a while since a Standard was offered on Marketplace, so when I saw this '77, I followed up. It was 35 litres of gas away, but the pictures showed it had never felt the wrath of the angle grinder wielded by customizer with half a plan and a full case of beer. It's even got a key, a good title/ownership, a working wiring harness and the starter doesn't growl and complain. The rest of it was in a big bin, most notable was the yellow lace painted gas tank. (may try to strip it down to see how carefully prepared the tank was before it was painted.)17897773326214640355500230923596.jpg
My plan is to tidy it up and get the engine started to see if it's serviceable as is.

Wow!!! Groovy tank paint...I wonder what inspired that little bit of creativity; something ingested or just a creative mind?

Paint day today. Shot the Project XS frame with charcoal gray hammertone.

Looks sharp! I did a similar color on an old Suzuki I turned into a street tracker.

Speaking of, on a random whim, I dug out the original tank to that Suzuki in the basement and mocked it up on the 650 frame...think I've found my look!

Thanks! That Suzie tank looks good on the XS. Always interesting to see how a different tank affects the overall look of a bike.

Took the cover sheets off the XS and gave it a clean. I changed the handle bars before parking up and now having second thoughts will see what it feels like when riding .
CVK carbs off Kawasakis are great but if you dont used the bike often they leak at the common fuel line until the O rings swell. Hence the drip stand in the photo.
I drained the tank and carbs before parking it up so hopefully start up will be pretty staightforward.

Did a bit more work on this Tracker today. Not sure if I like the size/shape of this fuel tank. I might sell it & run an O/E tank.
Love this build and have questions:
  • what front end?
  • are those RFY rear shocks? If so, have you used them previously? I have a set and am less than enamoured with them'
  • what tires? 19F and 18R?
Agree on the tank, seems inconsistent with the tailpiece/seat. You may find the OE tank equally inconsistent because of its overall bulk. How about a DT400 tank?

How about a build thread so that we can all follow along?

Greetings from Mtl.

Front end is from 2021 GSXR750 with Cognito Moto stem & LSL top clamp/bars.
RFY shocks are some I had sitting around in the workshop. I have either Ohlins or Koni alloy body to fit when finished.
Tyres are Eurogrip Trailhound SCR 100/90-19 front & 130/70-18 rear.
I've ordered a DT400 tank from an Indian site on Ebay with good reviews, see what it looks like when it gets here.
I bought this one partially built from a guy that lost interest & was shifting interstate. I stripped it down & got into building it with the idea of selling as soon as it's done.

Check out these new pegs I got for the 79! They make them specifically for the old xs! Got some other nice stuff too
Awesome. I've seen those. Let us know how they handle/feel.

Mocked up a new speedometer bracket using C.A.D.

Cardboard Aided Design!
