What the Heck Is It ?

I took an aircraft airframe sheet metal repair class with the GI Bill I earned. We learned composite repairs.
I used to teach the sheetmetal and composite classes. And I was the chief mechanic at a place called Renegade Lightsport where we used those fittings to build this...

That's me in the left seat

The coffee cup is your only clue for size....

If that's the size I think it is, I've seen 100k+ of them fly outta here loaded up on A-10A's.
I mighta' known you'd get it;)
Yup, it's a 30mm round (inert) from a GAU-8.

Pilot sits in the cockpit that is surrounded by thick plates of titanium..6 or 7 rotating barrels spitting 100's of rounds of HE or whatever is loaded up into targets. I've seen this plane in action at the range, when it fires it sounds like a deadly fart. You don't want to be on the receiving end. I have some expended rounds of 50 cal, 20mm and 30mm training rounds dug up from that trip to the range at Gila Bend. I'll take a pic of them later so you can see the different sizes.

'Better mousetraps' don't need to be replaced. Like 'Arnold' said in "Terminator Genisys" : "...old doesn't mean obsolete..."
