What the Heck Is It ?

JIM JIM JIM!!! It's all about Jim isn't it? Gee Jim , your paint is pretty, Gee Jim, you're so smart. I'm sick of it I tell you, SICK OF IT!!!
Actually, my friend Karen got the answer before Jim did, but she's not a member here (and doesn't like motorcycles), so I gave the ribbon to Jim. ;)

Well if my dad was still around it would probably not have helped to ask him despite him growing up on a farm in Minnesota, don't thing they had any of those new fangled things there! Milking was done by hand with a bucket and a stool!

Heck! when brother and I visited the family farm in 1961 they still did not have indoor plumbing!

Oh Please! Here we go again, JIM, JIM,JIM!!!

Ok, first off if anyone knows what this is they’re gonna have to prove it cause I honestly have no clue. I suspect it’s railroad. Looks like a cover for some sort of bevel gear/axle.

Maybe a cover plate for a DC electrical connection, but I have no evidence to back that up.

However, the arrow would be 90 degrees off..... darn.

It came out of an accumulation of junk from a lifelong union electrician mixed in with the accumulation of a union pipe fitter/rail car fab welder. Both were collectors of random junk. I’m guessing if it were for a valve it would have a third hole for the stem.

Was in the preverbial box of parts that often comes with a "barn find"

And what's it used for?
If you know it may reveal more about you than you want to share .... ;^)
It's a little unclear but the cardboard sleeve has a leaf shaped hole so you are looking at what's inside.
After a while I'll show the back of the sleeve with instructions for use.
