Plenty of work rebuilding everything the Hurricanes destroy every year or so…..
...ain't that the truth. The damage from Ian is SW Florida is striking. The amount of rubble still in the streets 10 weeks after the event is testament to how much damage was done. Going back down there soon, already fed up with winter!

- 2*C / 28 *F in the Montreal area, just got 31.6 cm / 12.4 in. of wet snow over the last two days. I've got a long driveway (several hundred feet) and lots of walkways/ parking areas to clear, so snow removal is a significant undertaking. Always strikes me as an unproductive expenditure of energy, yet satisfying when it is all done.

Yup well water; no power, no water...............
The good news is we have a gas stove so melting snow in pots on the stove worked. Pouring hot water in the automatic waterer kept it from freezing badly, so when the power came back on it was right back in business.
Was also feeding a wood stove for a neighbor that lives in Illinois. We love em all, even the FIBs! :laugh2:
I've been watching for a generator with enough oomph to power the 220 well, could bought one for a decent deal last summer D-oh!
Similar set-up here; also no power = no heating ( electric forced-air furnace). Got back up systems for heat, though. Wood stove in the basement, fireplace with a very effective insert in the living room, wood stove in the shop.

Change in the weather today. After temps below freezing all day and down to about -10°C at night, today we have +14°C at breakfast time. The hard-packed snow in the back yard is loosening up. Foggy, which makes it dark. It's quarter past nine and you wouldn't call it full daylight outside. Met office says the airflow coming in off the Atlantic originates in N Africa. But after a few days, it'll be back to Winter.

Enjoying 23-24C and a light breeze at the Dunes of Maspalomas. Which mainly are airborne sand from Sahara. Sunbathing totally nude, no prudes here 🙂
