Should explain to our N American friends that a Red warning, only rarely issued by the Met Office, indicates an imminent risk to life.

5PM and 3 Degrees in SW Ontario
Windy around here, but strong south east winds have caused a seiche on the US side of the Detroit River. I thought those just occurred in things like lakes.
Well, if its any consolation, it pissed rain here as well this afternoon. Now we have essentially ice driveways with a 1/2' of rain on top. I need to engage the four-wheel drive on my pickup just to get out of the driveway, which is completely flat, no slope at all!Pi$$in’ down relentlessly
Oh Lordy when will the freakin’ rain stop️
Sounds familiar, me being in Montreal. Here, the -24 C typically occurs after a snowstorm, when a cold high-pressure air mass clears the clouds. Interesting array of bird-life you have there. We get most of those plus Cardinals, but no sparrows or finches. We also have a good population of owls, not on the feeders of course; Snowy, Saw-whet and Barred owlsTypical central Alberta day here. Heavy snow coming down sideways in the wind when I got up @ 5:00am.
Still coming straight down lightly now. was -24 Celcius. think it's a bit warmer now. Have about another 6-7" of the white stuff to make it look rather Yule- ish. Have filled the bird feeder twice. Damn near needs an air traffic controller on it. Juncos,Nut hatches,Blue jays,Rose breasted finches,Chickadees ,Magpies, English sparrows and Downy wood peckers took ownership of the suet block. On the upside all the tire shops are making a fortune swapping on snow tires that have doubled in price overnight.
Indeed...although they are considered nocturnal, they are also quite active during the day. Was watching a rabbit at the far end of the yard and along comes this silent flying form out of the trees and poof!... no more rabbit. Happened in the blink of an eye. One night, several Barred Owls had gathered in the pines along the driveway. They were making such a racket that it got me out of bed to investigate. They were completely undeterred by the flashlight I was using to spot them. they just sat there screeching at one another for a good 10 minutes, and then flew off.The owls are spectacular birds to observe. A lot of Snowy Owls just N. of town. Have a couple of Horned owls
nest each year in a big spruce. Have actually listened to only that pair on occasion hunt cats at night by mimicking a
low growl of a cat looking for a fight. Then dropping out of the trees when one comes to investigate. Never ever
would have believed that was possible. Glad there were 4 of us that saw it sitting around the fire to confirm we hadn't had too many wobbly pops. We hardly ever see Cardinals out here. A lot of Waxwings though.
