If you lived at your latitude in the middle of a large continent, winter would have a whole new meaning for you. In my travels, I never ceased to be amazed by what I considered mild winter weather in Western Europe.the delights of living on an island?
An understatement, we live as far North as Moscow! In Britain we love to moan about the weather but a favourable freak of nature - aka the Gulf Stream - gives us temperate and volatile conditions instead of the big freeze our 56° N latitude merits. If you lived at your latitude in the middle of a large continent, winter would have a whole new meaning for you.
And for good reason. Over here, it often means we have nothing to talk about. The weather trumps even football.
Could it be time for a change in latitude? Not much in the mood to shovel snow anymore.
Yep! This is ugly. It could even mean tornadoes for me.Winter storm warning here in KC. Up to 13" of snow... but not before about a half inch of ice accumulation. Sure, why not...
All my life I split wood by hand. When I turned 60, I invested in a 22T log splitter. Now that I've hit 70, I'm sorely tempted to invest in a snow blower. Not much in the mood to shovel snow anymore.

Most definitely!!Could it be time for a change in latitude?
Cupboards have been filled, spare propane tanks, extra 10 gal of non-ethanol for the generator, wood for the stove is in.... guess we're ready as we'll ever be... bring it on!!Yep! This is ugly. It could even mean tornadoes for me.
Got beer?Cupboards have been filled, spare propane tanks, extra 10 gal of non-ethanol for the generator, wood for the stove is in.... guess we're ready as we'll ever be... bring it on!!
The thumb up is strictly for the fire. My wife plans to drive from Roanoke to Charlottesville, VA tomorrow with her mother. I believe it's a very bad idea. We're getting heavy weather here in Mississippi tomorrow, but it will be warm in the mid sixties. A flash freeze is possible for the Monday morning commute....and it's here. Freezing rain so far. Gettin' slick out. Weather Service now has us under a blizzard warning.

Shame no photos Raymond; a missed opportunity.Snow. Nature has hidden all our shame and grime under a clean carpet of gleaming white. My morning walk was almost magical, the ground is frozen so walking is easy, the snow deadens sounds, every branch and twig in the woods bearing its own little blanket of purity.
Was amused to discover how far dog walkers venture in wintry conditions - not far at all. Encountered human and canine footprints in the snow about, ooh, 200 yards from the village, at which point they had turned round and gone back home. Can't blame them.
About one inch overnight and it's still falling now. Very pretty, but won't stay like that long . . .
I'm envious, Raymond. Sounds lovely.About one inch overnight and it's still falling now. Very pretty, but won't stay like that long . . .
