Whats your weather right now?

1C Heading to 2 - Happy New Year!
Might greet 2025 with a ride through the neighbourhood so long as the predicted snow stays away.

Today is Winter. We don't have seasons, we have two-three days of one sort of weather then two-three days of something else - the delights of living on an island?

Yesterday was mild but I doubt it reached predicted the high of 7°C - not here anyway. Last night, a NW wind has brought in much colder air. And it was clear so heavy frost. My morning walk felt flippin' cold, definitely below zero, frozen puddles, ice on the roads. Now, it's nearly 3 in the afternoon, frost in the back garden hasn't melted, snow on the Eildon Hills still lying above about 1000', feels chilly cold when you step outside and when the breeze picks up the cold seems to pass straight through you. That's why I'm calling it Winter.

If you lived at your latitude in the middle of a large continent, winter would have a whole new meaning for you. In my travels, I never ceased to be amazed by what I considered mild winter weather in Western Europe.

I’m enjoying a well below freezing morning in Mississippi today. Fortunately, I have no need to go outside.

Happy New Year 2025!

If you lived at your latitude in the middle of a large continent, winter would have a whole new meaning for you.
An understatement, we live as far North as Moscow! In Britain we love to moan about the weather but a favourable freak of nature - aka the Gulf Stream - gives us temperate and volatile conditions instead of the big freeze our 56° N latitude merits.

And natures gift of volatile weather means we Brits are never lost for sommat to talk about with people we don't know. The weather trumps even football.

Mild day today if a little cold.
I've had Man Flu since Boxing Day and can't shake it off; missed two days work so far, hopefully back on Saturday.

Mrs C is off to North Wales with the family (two parents & 4 kids; I dodged that one thank goodness for flu!) to stay in a mountain lodge in Snowdonia.
Looks like they may get snowed in on Saturday (-5) so lots of rations taken. I'm staying at home to enjoy some R'n'R'. Maybe some Rock n Roll on the turntable if I feel better.

Winter storm warning here in KC. Up to 13" of snow... but not before about a half inch of ice accumulation. Sure, why not... :banghead:

All my life I split wood by hand. When I turned 60, I invested in a 22T log splitter. Now that I've hit 70, I'm sorely tempted to invest in a snow blower. Not much in the mood to shovel snow anymore. :er:

Yep! This is ugly. It could even mean tornadoes for me.

Cupboards have been filled, spare propane tanks, extra 10 gal of non-ethanol for the generator, wood for the stove is in.... guess we're ready as we'll ever be... bring it on!!

Well we got a foot or more of snow last night and one of the worst things is before the snow we had a long stretch of warm weather. Mostly in the high 30's to mid 40's. So that means no frost in the ground and the bottom couple inches of snow turn to water and do not snow blow good. Plus we have been having medium to strong winds so even with the drive blown off an hour latter some areas are drifted back in.

Did the drive twice today and never went anywhere. At least temps are in the mid to low 20's now so with luck some of the exposed sections of drive and walk path to dog pen might freeze.

...and it's here. Freezing rain so far. Gettin' slick out. Weather Service now has us under a blizzard warning.

No worries, currently snug as a bug in a rug... :)

The thumb up is strictly for the fire. My wife plans to drive from Roanoke to Charlottesville, VA tomorrow with her mother. I believe it's a very bad idea. We're getting heavy weather here in Mississippi tomorrow, but it will be warm in the mid sixties. A flash freeze is possible for the Monday morning commute.

Snow. Nature has hidden all our shame and grime under a clean carpet of gleaming white. My morning walk was almost magical, the ground is frozen so walking is easy, the snow deadens sounds, every branch and twig in the woods bearing its own little blanket of purity.

Was amused to discover how far dog walkers venture in wintry conditions - not far at all. Encountered human and canine footprints in the snow about, ooh, 200 yards from the village, at which point they had turned round and gone back home. Can't blame them.

About one inch overnight and it's still falling now. Very pretty, but won't stay like that long . . .

Shame no photos Raymond; a missed opportunity. ;)

I'm envious, Raymond. Sounds lovely.
Currently we're between 1-2" per hour. So far, everything forecast the last few days has been accurate.
Freezing rain, then sleet, then snow started about 6am.... then the wind arrived and gave us a blizzard. Supposed to last all day and into the night. Too gusty and drifting to tell what the current total is.... 4-6 inches maybe...

"The beast."
