Thanks Jet Ive decided to go with the non sprocket type. Both my engines were not fit for purpose so Im making the best out of what I have. I had seen the excellent post a while back so I think I'm ok to go
That sprocket type will only fit and work on the early engines, the 256 type, because the cam chain pitch differs from the '74 and later 447 type motors.

Thats what Ive realised now. The 1st engine had 2fo cases with 256 crank and rods and the sprocket type tensioner. I knew the chain was shorter on the 256 but not realised the pitch was also different. Thanks for the confirmation.
