Winnipeg xs peeps

Welcome, depends on your skill levels, setting up and welding on a hardtail requires a bit more than novice levels. A basket case and hardtail build will require a wiring harness, build your own, or buying one still requires a degree of knowledge and skill to join it up with whatever is planned to be used for switches, factory or aftermarket plus gauges and lights. Then there is the charging system, ignition system and carbs.

Do you have workshop manuals??. What is your skill level?? what tools do you have?? A bit more of an intro about these levels will help others gauge their help or advice.

And pics, lots of them, often what people buy is not what they think they have, or been told they have. Pics help others identify and confirm.

Skill level novice at best .my friend is a welder n going to help me with that .I have been tattooing for over 20 years and not a engine specialist. I just ordered a complete gasket n seals kit from mikesxs.

I plan on putting 3 grand into motor a lil at a time .I have a family to feed so.but I'm just centered on motor rite now
Not looking to discourge but You're talking about a looong- term project even with shop, tools, and knowhow. All the help you need is here. But I think you could pick up a running xs in decent condition for less than that and go from there. Just sayin...

XS’s are fun projects but it seems you may be prioritizing the XS incorrectly?
See you don’t have to put 3k into these. You can find a near running engine for pretty cheap.
You could build your bike faster that way. And sell parts on the side that others are wanting.
XS projects are even more fun if you aren’t going in over budget !

“NEVER” in capital letters, my gosh ? I have always gotten into XS projects very reasonably. I actually call it a “profitable hobby”
xsman4sho here is seemingly preparing to spend a significant amount on this. He joined for advice and help.
Look at the bike pics. It appears to have been stored awhile exposed to weather. Brake rotors, frame, engine all a bit rusty. L👀k closer at the forks. Is that an optical illusion or are the fork tubes bent ?
A lot of work there.

Yes to that 3 k Dont know in what currency But if US $
It is at this point in time possible you can take a zero off at that budget
or close to it.
After a evaluation of what you have ..
Are mileage known and if there are problems

I have 2 x 80 -s my Oil filling cap does not look the same .If I see right on the picture
Can be dust
Mr Skull is the ID expert ..motor number does it

Pictures helps .. or haul them parts to an experienced mech I would be surprised
if 3 k is the sum at the end

Not to judge ones choice or decision, anything can b achieved with help and the right attitude

I do see anomalies and do wonder if this bike is the right choice.
Anomalies are the gauges and swingarm are earlier than 80. Gauges and swingarm 78/79 Special. Dipstick was plastic on the 80 and later. As Jan points out only Vin no's will confirm.Forks look bent to me as well. ? On the 2 sets of carbs, are they the same, need to see pics. Swing Arm makes no difference to a hardtail, just makes me question, isthe bike is a mash up of more than one.?
