Wisconsin Buc-ee's

Seen this shit happen all the time. Local councils, or municipilies, pay, (or drop fees), costs for multinational companies to set up with promises of jobs through development.

The real cost is local rates, ( land tax), goes up, to pay the cost of the subsidies, multiple local small business's collapse, local layoffs. Money that goes back into the community from small busness is mostly lost through multinational profits going out of the area. These multinationals negotiate a lower wage under the guise that they bring employment to an area.

As for the electric stations in this article. Is the Biden's infrastructure bill in part funding the expansion. If so the multinational wins all round with local infrastructure expansion costs being 50% funded for by the locals, +

Buc-ees hires a bunch of people at each location and pays very well. They pay enough that they have people willing to spend 40 hours a week in the restroom.

Buc-ee's vs Kwik Trip... Stopped at a Buc-ees in Texas (of course) My money is on Kwik Trip. cuz no one needs to walk from 80 gas pumps in sub zero wind. Merch was meh, same for the food, it seemed like 12 different places in the store had the exact same food items. Kwik Trip really has good hot food selections pick out, grab drinks, pay back on the road. I think they are eating McDonald's lunch. :sneaky:
PS we have three kwik Trips in 12,000 population Baraboo, will never see a Buc-ees here.

They are best at highway stops, IMHO. For me, it’s the big clean restrooms, always the least expensive gas, and a decent cup of coffee. The brisket isn’t too bad either.

You need to make all the way to Kwik Trip country... ;)
Buc-ees is like going to walmart to pick up a gallon of milk.

Agreed. Like I said, Buc-ees can’t be beat if you need a restroom stop on a road trip. For me, it’s half way to Atlanta. I can fuel up at Buc-ees and again on the return.
Oh yeah, Buc-ees stuffed toys and tee shirts for the kids!

Last year I rode 300 miles roundtrip to Buc-ees in Florence SC..the closest one to me..Buc-ees is coming to NC..but is still almost 2 yrs out...My riding buddies and I love Buc-ees foods..Mexican Chicken Burrito was awesome as is their BBQ Brisket sammiches..chopped or pulled...and 120 gas pumps with cheeep gas...Place is a 24hr zoo..They hire locally and pay very well...My only complaint..theres absolutely NO PLACE to sit outside and eat your food..except in your cage..Scooterists and Bikers be damned...

Coincidentally, our excellent Austin NPR Station just aired a locally produced interview with the guy who made this viral video (91K views).
Key takeaways:
Buc-ee's looks like a truck stop but it isn't. No trucks are allowed.
The gas pumps and the immaculate restrooms are merely a lure to get you into the store, buying merchandise and food.
About half of the stuff inside the store is Beaver-branded.
The real secret of Buc-ee's is the Beaver logo. People just find it incredibly appealing and comforting. They'll buy anything with the Beaver on it. Nuggets, jerky, pajamas, socks, children's books.
Interesting factoid: Buc-ee's does not ship yet. But the demand is out there. So, entrepreneurs will go into a Buc-ee's store, buy a bunch of junk, and then list it on eBay. There are currently over 4,300 NEW Buc-ees-branded items for sale on eBay.
Full disclosure: I own a Buc-ee's T shirt. Got it used and super cheap on eBay. It is one of my favorite shirts.

The nearest Buc-ee's to me is about 130 miles, have past by but never entered. We have a Wawa;s about 20 miles away, haven't visited there either. For some reason I just don't get the fascination with modern filling stations / convenience stores. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't think so.

For many, it’s about fulfilling a need. I used to have a commute that got me up at 4:30 AM and straight into the car. I’d stop at Racetrack or QT, top up the tank, get my coffee and a biscuit or maybe a breakfast burrito and all in a hurry. Buc-ees fills a similar need on a long road trip. Guaranteed cheapest gas and cleanest restroom no exception. I also like the coffee and the brisket. They also have ethanol free gas for your XS650!

Have friends that on their trips from metro Atlanta south always stop at Bucees. Few months ago wife and I helped them move his mother back down to Tallahassee and of course had to stop at one heading south. Gassing up was convenient and we parked at one end and I needed to use the men's. Had to walk clear to the other end inside to get the restroom.
WTF couldn't they have put it in the center?
