Can the experts tell me if that 3rd wheel gear has to be replace or not? Sometimes, my 5th is jumping out and fall to 4th.
As shown in the picture, the 3rd "wheel gear" shift toward the 5th "pinion gear", to engage the cogs. Maybe the cogs are too worn to stay in the 5th pinion wheel???
What do you think?
Thank you!

Looks strange there
More inspection needed
I don't believe those wheels are expensive If problems it is to far in --- to much work --- to many gaskets and seals to take a chance and
get it wrong ..doing it over again.

Hmm I'm not seeing wear? I can try to get a pic from a gear set I have out.
Somewhere in here I think it was 2manyXS1Bs did a pretty thorough transmission setup, shim thread.
Yes please, I would appréciate to compare. With same angle of view...

I'll look for 2manyXSBs threads,
thank you!

Thank you! On KIMG9965.JPG, it seems that your cog in not in a good shape. Does this transmission works ok?
I think that one is 1-2? Sorry: It's just a random set of gears in a box, no idea of miles or condition.
I have a a 73 that's a bit fussy about the 4-5 shift, just dab at it and it'll spit back out of fifth a few seconds later. But if you mean it when you shift it's fine.

What does the slot in the wheel gear look like that receives the dog? The edge shouldn't be worn, a good 90deg corner.
A dog should go into the slot at least 50% Sometimes you can shim the wheel (spinning) gear closer to the slider.
That wheel gear shouldn't have much axial play.
What do the shift fork faces look like?
Check out where the shift fork rides in the drum when that gear's selected. Make sure the drum groove isn't worn wider.

:agree:

Yes, the slots edges are a little rounded. I will check for the 50% later, I am on vacation now for a month...;)
But I'm sure the fork is in good condition, same for the drum.
I think I have to change the 5th pinion gear and the 3rd wheel gear...:(
Thank you for taking time to give all this points to check!
