I have a 1971 Yamaha xs1-b. I have put a little more than 7,000 miles on it since I finished it up. This happened a few days ago, never before, and not since. The engine was running, and the bike was in 1st gear, but the bike wouldn't roll backwards. I tried several times, but it wouldn't go backwards at all. It acted like something just locked up in the transmission. I drove home, and tested it at every stop sign. It worked just fine, and still is. Any ideas? Thanks.

I’ve seen chains hooked so bad that the bike would not roll backwards! I doubt that is your issue but I have seen it
Im not sure what "hooked" means. The chain is almost new, and both sprockets are in great shape also.

Did you happen to bump the kick lever, with your leg, When rolling it backwards in gear?
Pretty sure that's what I did. I've been experimenting and I think you're right . Thanks

Thanks, it makes sense now, but that's not the problem. It turned out to be operator error. I was bumping the kick start lever with my leg.
