Maybe an easier solution would have been to attach a sign to the drum, ''Steel drum for sale $10.00'' . Within a day or two someone would steal it from the roadside.

Just needed a sign on it that said "Do not remove this drum!"

Here in Kansas City it'd be gone that night.

Had to laugh at a photo I saw once - one of the US desert states, metal sign 30 yards from the highway, 'IT IS AN OFFENSE TO SHOOT AT THIS SIGN'

Riddled with bullet holes of course. I still don't understand.

.When I did military Service we once practiced with a hand held antitank weapon
It was not the real load but was converted to a 9 mm submachine gun cartridge saving costs..
The troop was divided in to 2 groups each one to the left and right of a small gravel road leading to the targets
There was a round semaphore flipped between red and green Red not allowed to Shoot

Instructions orders and at the end " Dont shoot at the Semaphore "
I doubt anyone would have gotten the idea try it -- the angle between target and the semaphore was ca 30 Degrees,
Officer at the left side someone to the Right shot at the Semaphore . Was difficult to hit with so not many holes.
Was not without Risk
the magical Words " supplementary training " Had a Friend at a Torpedo Boat some equipment went missing
Skipper did not put out the plank letting anyone going onshore for leave .. before Confession .
Parties and girlfriends at home train tickets for trains soon leaving Is it called peer pressure... Besides leadership.

Shooting road signs is a popular sport here in the states. Can be done sober and on foot but way more fun in a car with a cooler of beer.

I was looking for information online regarding a Hawk that has been perching on our house, eating birds and crapping all over our driveway. . When I came across this photo, which captured a perfectly timed moment.

My FIL was cutting his grass once. Turned the mower off and left it on the parkway to go grab a bottle of water from his garage.

Someone thought it was junk and was literally trying to take the still hot mower and the FIL had to go intervene to keep his mower.



I've also noticed that if you put a sign saying "FREE", stuff tends to disappear just as quickly.

Wife and I dug up our front walkway which consisted of limestone that was native to the Joliet area. I really didn't want to haul it to the dump, so I stacked it nice and neat, jammed a rebar in the ground, found an empty amazon box and made a "FREE" sign.

Finished the work for that day, went inside and showered. Within 2 hours of me posting that sign, my neighbor had called his Dad over and they loaded all the limestone into the back of his truck and it was gone.

We did keep a few rocks though to make a stone cairn for some reason.

We have a Cooper's Hawk that hangs out around here. I've seen him lunching on tweety-birds a couple of times and found a pile of feathers in the back yard just a couple of days ago.

Yeah when I was looking into possible culprits, Coopers Hawks were at the top of the list.
We also have a lot of Harris Hawks, which are fun to watch, they hunt in teams in coordinated attacks.


And Red Tailed Hawks, but they’re big boys, I think they like bigger fur covered prey.


And this guy is another possibility, they’re small and hunt birds almost exclusively. The Sharp Shinned Hawk,
