Something has to be wrong with me. I post one bike for sale so I can begin another project but hey, gotta look at FBMP sometimes with coffee. I swear if it had been any other bike I would have passed it right by (maybe) but the green sucked me right in. Messaged the guy and he got back to me around dinner time. He told me several guys had messaged about it but I mentioned I was actually serious. Got the address across town and off I went. It is rough! Engine is locked and of course the smell of MMO filled the air so I knew he tried to see if it would move. He bought a trailer at auction and the bike was on it what was there is what there was. I offered him $80, he countered with $90 and I said let’s load it up. IMG_7257.jpeg
I only had a few minutes to look it over after I got home before the mosquitos ran me inside but I did not a few PO fuckery signs. Silicone around the intake ports, missing bolts on the alternator cover. Somehow they managed to crank some M6 nuts on the foot peg studs, plug end cut off the alternator lead and I’m sure I will find many more. That was just a 10 min poke-around. IMG_7259.jpeg
I noticed the springs are on the outside of the front tubes under the fork gators so that was encouraging and though I haven’t located the engine # yet the 3 hole cover along with the shape of the components I feel pretty confidant it’s the original engine.IMG_7260.jpeg
The thing that I really liked was the frame #S650-000937. I’m assuming that’s in the early run group? I’m stepping outside my comfort box with this one but if and when I move forward the information is here.IMG_3124.jpeg
I understand the missing parts will take a while to gather IF I can find everything. What’s the consensus?

It would be worth the $90 to me just to know that it didn't end up as scrap metal. Whatever you do with it, parts, restore whatever, is a far better fate.

The gussets cast into the case behind the left cylinder also says it's an early XS1 or 1B. They were dropped about halfway through the production run iirc... or maybe when they switched to the XS2. Don't recall exactly, but it points to an XS1 or 1B. So most likely original motor.

A true statement.
My Tracker project, which I can never seem to find time for is like that. I'll have about 3500-4500 in the engine (rebuilt crank w/Carrillo rod's, head work and cam by Hoos, 700 BBK, Vape ign, 34mm Mikuni's) and by the time I build the rest of it, I'm sure I'll have $7500-10,000 invested in a $4-6K bike. I don't really care as I don't drink, gamble or chase women (other than the Mrs.) and you can't take it with you.

We have equally charming POS xs1s! Check for a cracked frame by the swingarm pivot...that discovery derailed me into other projects while I recouped emotionally.

Thanks for the tip. I gave both sides a good looking over and it doesn’t appear so.

I notice there are no bolts holding the cover on so no telling what happened underneath there but at least it’s covered. I won’t be getting to this anytime soon. Have to prep the 75 for transport today and the wife has enough “trips” planned to keep me busy all of Aug and most of Sept. Going up north in Oct to see fall colors and kids getting married in Fla in Nov so maybe I’ll get to check it out once the garage becomes the winter haven. Shoulder surgery downtime killed my summer…
