XS1 wheel on an xs650

I have a xs1 drum wheel that I have recently had turned and brand new brake shoes put on. I am looking to get this thing on my bike already!! Anyluck on the tab solution?

Did you ever pull this off?

Is it possible to put the XS1 hub on the XS650 17mm axle? Custom bearings?

Front axle diameter is the same all years, length increases. An XS1 drum front wheel will slide right on a later axle.

You'll need some spacers as the later model fork triples are wider C to C.
I just mention here I'm looking for an XS1 drum front wheel or hub-backing plate complete

IMHO: Imagine putting a Motolanna type adapter on those caliper lugs. It would like like crap. The adapter and the lugs would hide and distract from the cool XS1 brake plate. You might as well go disc.

What you want to do is shave those caliper mounts off the 35mm forks, and get a really skilled aluminum welder to weld a rectangular stopper onto the left fork. I know this is a controversial idea.

If you are worried about the feasibility or integrity of welding on a stopper, here's a solution that Jim came up with.
Make a strut that attaches to the axle and fender mounts. Maybe 1/4" steel, nickel plated. Since it's between the forks, it should be unobtrusive.
I have actually seen this solution done once. It was on a top-notch build, was done well, and looked great -- very concealed. Unfortunately I can't find the pics, so you'll have to take my word for it.
 
I made the same kind of drum plate bracket for a girder front end on my sportster, used an XS400 wheel. Wish I kept that setup..

I was also working on a custom front end for another build using XS400 forks but trying to fit a small drum front wheel off a 70's XR something. I had somebody weld a tab on the fork leg, didn't realize till after finishing it up that the tube now binds up at the bottom where the tab was welded. :doh: Didn't even think about warpage when welding..

I still like this idea, and if I live long enough, I'm eventually going to try it on 35mm XS650 forks. I'll bet you could take a fork stanchion (inner), wrap and tape a sheet of fine wet/dry silicon carbide around it, pop it in the warped lower leg, rotate it, and fix it. Maybe with a 34mm stanchion in a warped 35mm tube. Or something.
 
I might try something like that someday, maybe run a hone down it? I’d like to salvage it. I’ve got a new pair of 8” over tubes to go with them, would make a cool chopper front end.

With all due respect DB I think you're missing how the bracket installs, it's nearly hidden behind the fork leg.
this would be the view from BEHIND the leg.

It will show less than an axle to fender mount strut would.
