Hello All:

It's been a while since I had an XS650 so I bought this one last fall.
I rode it some and it is a pleasure to ride.

Is there a special way to adjust the cam chain tensioner on this xs2 engine?

Thank you for the link.
On my tensioner the rod comes out the hole but then the spring is completely compressed.
I have a type B tensioner.

On my tensioner, the rod does not come out and the spring is completely compressed.
Do I have the wrong rod?

I see. The tensioner rod doesn't show past the end of the tensioner with the spring depressed. Something not right there. I'm afraid those with more experience will have to express an opinion. But it doesn't look right, I agree.

Well this is extremely different. Ebay in Germany has this for sale...?

My rod is 3 inches, the german rod is 4.5 inches.

I think this is the correct rod.

I looked up that seller on eBay. He seems to have a fair collection of used 650 cam chain tensioner parts listed. It's not at all clear to me what the correct part would be for your bike.

So, how large is your thumb?"

ahaha ... funny my thumb is not as big as my rod... lol

Does any one know if the rod is supposed to be popping out of the end of the bolt on a XS2 when the engine is running like newer XS650's do after adjustment?

My rod is about 2mm still inside the bolt and the spring is fully compressed.

I have a whining or whirling sound when the engine is running.

I may have a pieced together cam tensioner assembly

According to what I have researched, my tensioner assembly is correct. I am going to reassemble it and then adjust my chain a liitle looser to see if the noise goes away.

Thank you for your help.

Ron

Thank you GLJ !

That is what mine does.
So when properly adjusted, should it be at that point as well. Like newer X650's?
