XS2 carb install

Carbs reinstalled. Bike started relatively easy, considering I have no idea how long it's been sitting. When revved up, it pops loudly, I think from one cylinder only, but not sure. I got tired and quit for today. Any tips or advice as to what is causing the loud popping would be appreciated. What sort of auto spark advance do these bikes have?

The advance weights are under the cover opposite the points. If that bike sat for a while it’s very possible they need a good cleaning and lube. You may be able to adjust a little of that out with the mix screw. Popping can also be caused by a leaky carb boot. Spray a little carb or brake cleaner at the base of the boots and see if it revs. Did you install in-line filters? How clean was the tank?

Good to know. I'll take a look at the advance weights. They're probably crapped up. I set both mix screws at 3/4 turn, and haven't experimented with them yet. I wondered if there might be a leak at one of the boots. I'll look into all of those things in the next day or two. I plan to add inline fuel filters when I put the gas tank on. Right now, I have a temporary test tank hooked up, hanging over the bike. I've used it for many years for this very purpose. It's squeaky clean inside, so no problem for now. I can't buy nice looking small inline filters in the town I live in, so I need to order some. Can you, or someone on here recommend some, and where to buy them?

I definately have an intake leak at the right carb, so I've ordered new carb holders from JBM Industries. Hopefully that will be the end of that problem.
