First post, I apologize in advance.

Just begun working on a 1972 XS2 I picked up, the front suspension was totally whacked. Very squirrley steering, wants to topple over in the corners and was generally unrideable. Something was wrong with the forks (I just assumed just leaky), so I peeled them apart.

Fork innards were very gunky with a dark grey sediment at the bottom, so I wanted to clean it out before I put new oil in. The spring is aftermarket meaning that the PO has been in there. After taking out the dampener rod, I removed the circlip in the bottom of the inner tube and out came the parts featured in the picture. I was not mindful of the order or arrangement they were in before they went onto the bench, assuming I could easily find that information in the Clymers or online. On the second fork I was more careful to preserve their order, but when looking at it, it seemed incorrect. Pieces you would think would fit together, were not assembled together. I could not find anything about their order and how they go back together, and I could hardly find anything online featuring these parts at all. They arent in the exploded view, no youtube videos, and AFAIK only one post on this site had them, though he had them on the dampener rod itself??

I am truly confused and could use a bit of help. The order they came out was from right to left, starting with the circlip. the second part to the left is a flatspring, that wasn't actually springing anything, it was just sitting in the hollow/counterbore of the part on the far left. On the bottom side of the part on the far left has a counterbore that perfectly fits the part that is 3rd from the left, making me think they are supposed to go together. Any help is hugely appreciated.
