I just noticed that the headlight in my 72 XS2 it rotated a few degrees to the right when you’re facing the bike. I’ve attached a photo. It is a stock headlight, and none of the mounting lugs or tabs appear to have been moved. The headlight bucket is mounted straight and true.
Has anyone experienced this and any suggestions?

The only way an XS2 headlight can rotate like that is if something has been altered. Need to see pics of the back of the sealed beam and the chrome trim ring.
Those are my thoughts. I can’t see that either have been modified. See the attached pictures. I really appreciate your thoughts.

Right after I posted this, I took a closer look. It appears the headlight has been modified and has a halogen lamp in it. I am now guessing that somebody disassembled it and didn’t get her aligned when they put it back together. Is that a common conversion?

I think I’ve answered my own question. I am able to rotate the lens in the housing. So this has been disassembled and reassembled. I have it aligned, but I’m just wondering how to seal it and keep it aligned.

Tightening bezel the screws will grip it enough to keep it aligned. Only if it has an issue will that not be the case.

I was just about to write words to this effect. Someone has removed the glass from the reflector.
Google "glass cement" and choose one. I've never done this, so can't recommend one. I'd avoid contact cements, they will soften when hot.

I did some research on this and the car buffs seem to recommend a flexible sealer like a butyl type sealant. I am not going to try undoing the crimp and pulling the lense to seal behind it, so I will see what I can find that I can force under the metal lip.
Thanks for the responses.

Butyl type sealant sounds good, but like you said, you'd have to completely un-crimp.
A very thin, slow-drying glue, will be carried by capillary action to where it needs to go, without un-crimping. In a different lifetime, I repaired pottery and ceramics. One way to repair a clean crack, was to tightly hold the two pieces together with tape or rubber bands, than apply glue to the crack, and capillary action would draw it completely inside the crack. I used a proprietary archival epoxy that was the consistency of water and took a week to cure. And, it was expensive, so I don't recommend it. Instead, I'd try original super glue (not the gel type), which is also the consistency of water, and should wick in just fine. Go all the way around the rim, and maybe do one or more repeat applications, after it dries.

Good morning, I'm restoring a 1972 XS2 650. I wanted to ask if this headlight is compatible with the rubber seals and mounts for the TX or 1974.
I can only find the rubber seal kit for the 1974-later XS...
The fork is 34mm.
Thank you very much.

I just wanted to ask if the holes are the same, because I can only find headlight retaining kits from 1974 onward. Can anyone help me? Thank you so much.
