Hey all, putting a lot of miles on this old thing recently getting ready for a vintage ride next weekend where we'll cover about 1k miles over a weekend. So i'm trying to tease all the issues out now if i can.

Think I teased another one out today.

In higher RPM's in 5th gear, like around 5k RPM, occasionally the transmission will jump down into 4th gear. Not an enormous deal as i just nudge it back into 5th. But if I can stop that from happening, i'd prefer it. Also if I can get this addressed by not splitting the cases that would also be ideal. So what can I do about this outside of physically looking at the gearing?

I've already taken a look at this thread and I'm going to see about that when I get home tonight: https://www.xs650.com/threads/help-on-sudden-shifting-trouble-81-xs650-h.10543/

Figured it out I think. I took the clutch side cover off and started fiddling. The selector assembly had alot of in-out play. Took the sprocket cover off and saw that the #9 circlip in this diagram was missing. Pretty positive thats it, but at least i'm going to get a new circlip in there and ride again. The springs in the selector mechanism seem nice and strong so im guessing this is it.
