So, I took a shakedown cruise on my XS2 project this morning. Only a couple of minor issues to address. One of the screws that hold the speedo face has vibrated out, and the other one is loose. This lets the face vibrate. If I remove the outer rubber seal, will that let me remove the glass to gain access to it? The other thing is that the right cylinder doesn't want to idle. It fires up nicely as soon as I accelerate. So, I assume that it is just an adjustment. Rides nice, and has lots of power.

I had the same issue when I bought my 650 and 650Skull’s excellent thread gave me the confidence to disassemble my gauges to tighten those screws and clean up the faces and inside of the glass. Just be careful, don’t pry against the edge of the glass trying to get the ring off, if you think it’s too tight make another round with the pry tool and it’ll come off by hand, a paint can opener worked the best. And I remade that rubber cushion like he did out of some weather stripping, came out great.

Thanks, those posts were very helpful. You're right, it's not as simple as I had hoped, but I will get it worked out. I'm actually a little better at this sort of thing now that I'm old. When I was younger, I lacked the patience, and too often damaged things unnecessarily.
Did you vacuum sync your carbs?
No, I didn't. I don't recall reading anything about that in my manuals. Where can I read up or learn about that?
Pretty sure there’s plenty of info on here and YouTube about it. Having an XS2 your carbs won’t be linked so they are adjusted at the throttle screws. By removing the screw circled in the pic and attaching a vacuum fitting, gauges can be used to synchronize the carbs.
