Trying to find out what is a good AGM or Lithium battery that would work on my cafe. I'm not fully understanding the ratings ie. Crank amps. Any help would be appreciated. I am limited to size (physical) because it goes under the seat rear cone area. Thanks

I would use a Shorai lithium. Are you kick start only or keeping the electric starter?

I like Shorai too. They make a very tiny and light-weight battery, the LFX09L2-BS12 which will do the job, even if you electric start. They used to spec it for the XS650, but I think they had a lot of warranty claims on it, so they now spec a larger battery. I'm pretty sure the failed batteries were due to faulty charging and/or electrical systems, not the small size of the battery. I've used several of this battery, never any problems. I have one in an XS650 daily rider that is 10 years old.

Yes, that one lives in my tracker that runs original '80 electric start system and mostly stock charging system. I did replace the R/R with a lithium deal (supposed to limit max charge to 14VDC), but I'm now of the opinion that's not a necessity, so long as regulator is in OEM spec.

My 650 is a 77 and I am putting in Mike's RR kit for this bike. Do I need to be concerned about overcharging with the battery you are suggesting? Thanks ! Bob

Just my opinion from personal experience; modern LiFePo batteries appear fairly robust and the 14.5VDC max charge of most systems doesn't bother them. They are not susceptible to thermal runaway as other lithium battery types. Anyway, again just opinion, but as a general rule, the electrical components from Mike's may not be the best quality. Were it me, I'd spend the extra $10 to get a Rick's RR:
