Man, there were a few opportunities for me to buy one of those back in the 90's/early 2000's when I was stationed in the Southwest and at very reasonable prices too.

My ex-wife wouldnt have any part of it, even though I assured her numerous times they were gonna skyrocket in value!

Guess thats part of why she's an ex-wife. ;)

Always loved those bikes.

Anyone familiar with this bike or the owner, a Dave Fabre in Maine? It's posted on Facebook's XS650 Society. I can't get a link to FB work, maybe because that group is private.

I used to get a new Sportster every year. I bought one of the "Pin Setter" cafe bikes and was never so disappointed in my life. I sold it within the first month and bought a red XLCH and loved it, AMF or not. The guy I sold the XLCR to still has it.

I have no illusions about the XLCR's performance (though it was billed as the fastest HD of that era) - I still want one:shootme:

I'm fortunate gggGary hasn't offered to store it until my garage addition is done (not a hint, just my bikeaholic brain at work):poke:

Do you know he's asking $6780 for it? He just joined XS650 Society yesterday, and he doesn't seem to be answering questions on where he's located, at least not in the visible comments. I'm seeing red flags, TBH, and as much as I'm drooling over it, I'm taking a hard pass.

Does this link work?

Some red flags to me too. However, he gave his phone # and I spoke with him yesterday. Reportedly he is in Van Buren, Maine. I asked for photos of specific areas of the bike and he sent them to me, but some of his answers over the phone were a bit general. He is asking a lot, but if the bike is really that nice, maybe not too bad.

That looks exactly like the Canadian listing from 2/18/2023 on Bring a Trailer; it sold around $7600 IIRC. I posted a link on that date in this thread

Edit: here it is.. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-yamaha-xs650/

So most likely another complete "copy and paste scammer" just like all the parts sellers in all my groups I frequent on facebook.

Certainly ambitious to swing for the fences by scam selling a whole bike.

Although, thinking back a couple decades ago when I bought a Harley Road King on eBay.

I actually already had the bike in my possession fresh from the shippers when I saw my exact Road King posted for sale by a different seller on eBay (serial number and all)!

I immediately reported it to eBay and it was subsequently removed but wow, takes a lotta guts to try a scam like that.

Same bike, same friggin' pic. Either he's trying to lose several thousand on a bike he bought a month ago.... sneer..... or he's a scammer. Best report him and let the powers sort it out.

I don't do Facebook. period. period.....

Bought several bikes off Ebay; never an issue. Well, there was this one time a seller refused to sell after I paid @ Buy it Now (Soup Nazi that's had same bike listed on this site and everywhere else since 2013): No bike for you!

We've seen BAT listings copied and scammed on FB before. It wouldn't surprise me if they copy Mecum listings, etc.

I deleted Dave Fabre's post. I also banned him from posting on the 650 Society page in the future.
