I didn’t even know they made performance parts for the RE. 😯

The standard 650cc engine was bored to 865cc and fit with S&S Pistons & race cam, low restriction air filter, and Tech two into one Stinger exhaust were added and the bike was dyno tuned to the engine, intake and exhaust modifications.

They are being raced in the AMA flat track series. Johnny Lewis has actually won a couple of races.

Last season they had a Production Twins class in which they were racing pretty successfully, that's been dropped this year unfortunately.
There is still the womens Build, Train, Race series where they are being run.
I did see one still being run in the Super Twins class at the Short Track in Senoia GA in March but didn't stand a chance against the factory bikes.
S&S however does make a whole range of Go-Fast goodies for them.

Here's a pic of one I took in April at the Mesquite Devils Bowl AFT race. My favorite bike at the race.

The BTR program is still active and supported by RE, it's very entertaining racing.

Indian still has a factory team, as do Yamaha and Kawasaki though HD is out, they never could get the XG (Street) based engines to perform in the premier class however last year they did Ok in the Production Twins class. Really too bad that's been dropped as it gave opportunity to privateers to develop many brands and gave a fighting chance to the HD and RE brands. However the Indians are running restrictors (shades of NASCAR which controls AFT)

I read a long string of postings concerning the restrictions put on Indian and it all shook down to the fact that the Indians are running a non production engine while everyone else is production (except HD). The Indian was designed with a huge flywheel (14") that helps smooth the power out while the production engines aren't able to do that.

If NASCAR is involved, it's gonna' suck. As far as I'm concerned NASCAR, and all thing related, are to racing what WWE is to the UFC. If you want good Flat Track racing, attend one put on by Corey Texter. Just wow is all I have to say.

Yeah, the Indian was a blank sheet design from the beginning for racing, just as the old HD XR was a purpose built redesign for racing. The newer HD XG is based on their Indian built 750 Street models, now discontinued as a street bike they hoped would be potent enough to replace the aging XR. Against the Indian FTR it was outclassed. The other serious competitors in the field, Yam and Kaw are using breathed on production based engines. There's some serious rework done in them as well, they are more modern designs but there's still only so much they can do even with the factory resources behind them.
All of it is what made the Production Twins class so appealing as it broadened the participation and made it easier for more brands to be involved.
The HDXG was competitive as was the RE, but it allowed possible entries from of course Yam and Kaw but also Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, BMW and others. I think it would have been good for the sport.

Here's a bike I fixed up, rode a bit, then sold in August of 2019. Nearly 4 years and 700 miles later it's for sale on Facebook...

Just wanted to post it here. It's really nice.

I did a ton of stuff to it, so it's not original.
• Tank leaked, so tank is not original
• Hagon rear shocks (taller than stock, so rear sits a little higher
• Progressive springs in the front (for someone about 180 lbs.)
• Side covers and tank professionally painted
• Extra seat came with bike when I purchased it. Seat professionally done (not a cover)
• New handlebars and "Siligrips"
• Aftermarket rubber handlebar mounts
• Pretty sure I put new ss braided brake lines and speedo cable
• It ran great and probably still does
• Starter worked perfect

Here's what it looked like when I purchased it and after I fixed it up.
