I really, really, really want to ride one of these 500cc triples! I will probably have to find one to buy to achieve that goal since I don't know anyone with one.
Classic Yamaha XS650. Completely stock survivor, last licensed in 1983, in indoor storage since then. No rust. All it needed was some seals, gaskets and grommets, and a tune up, and she runs fine. I've ridden her out to Tortilla Flats a couple times and what a fun bike. She gets a lot of attention, it's like turning back the clock.
Specifically; carbs rebuilt, new chain and sprockets, new master cylinder, new rear rim and spokes (original was cracked), various grommets and other rubber stuff, new condensers and coils, new tires, New YSS shocks. I have the original shocks and they are rust-free but have no damping and leak oil.
This bike is in excellent condition for being 50 years old. There is some patina and light scratches, but I've seen many of these XS650s and have never seen one this clean and rust free. Hagerty puts the price at $5900 for excellent condition, my price is fair. Come and see the bike, it's nice. Clear AZ title. Serious seller.

It's pretty simple. You lean as far forward as you can, grab as much throttle as much as you dare then wait... and wait... and at about 6K it points skyward and some poop comes out.I really, really, really want to ride one of these 500cc triples! grab this throttle and wing it to 15000
good thing rev limiter is set for 13000
it's a hard limiter when the crank explodes
reality is it is rather tame below 5500 then wham up to 9200

Had a 750 in 1976/77. Been a while so I probably misremember a lot of details, but yeah, at mid range RPM it was very tame. You had to pay attention to the tach as much as the speedo

old 28mm carbs, home made exhaust
Now at 34mm carbs with Factory Pipes and less 40 lbs.
Keeps neck to neck with my old '84 Ninja 900 up to 100mph so dead heat race.
What is it with these red 1980 Specials always being close to me and easily resurrected? I mean, I already have two of this year in this color...
