Mikuni mk2 identify Postby holsteiner
Mikuni 1: Up to year 77 choke lever is pulled up. To operate idle mixture screws from the side.
Mikuni 2: From year 78 the choke lever is operated to the side. To operate idle mixture screws from above.

From https://www.triples.de/forum1/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1602
So, now a little carburettor and fuel tap detection aid Our XS-sen were equipped with a total of three different carburettors. The XS 750 built in 1977 had the (IG internally numbered) Mikuni "I" carburetor. It has a single-stage choke whose lever is pressed from TOP to BOTTOM. The air inlet cross-sections are 50 mm (all relevant data measured from the outside). The nozzles towards the cylinder head have 43 mm. The matching intake manifolds (also towards the cylinder head) have a length of 22 mm. These "short" intake manifolds (ET no.: 1J7-13586-00) are at the moment, if at all, unfortunately only available as original spare parts via "expensive Yamaha" (as of September 18 approx. 49 € per piece). Unfortunately, this also applies to the air filter (ET no.: 1J7-14451-00) of the 77 model (as of September 18 approx. 60 €).

The XS 750 Bje. 78 and 79 and the SE from 80-82 had the Mikuni "II" carburetor. It has a two-stage choke, the lever of which is pulled diagonally to the LEFT of the vehicle in two stages. The air inlet cross-sections are 55 mm. The nozzles towards the cylinder head have only 42 mm. The matching intake manifolds are now 30 mm long. By the way, both Mikunis also bear the manufacturer's lettering on the carburettor cover. The Hitachi carburettor installed on the XS 850 does not make this effort on its chrome-plated carburettor covers. His choke lever is pulled UP in two stages. Its other dimensions are otherwise the same as those of the Mikuni II carburettor given above.

The 17 liter fuel taps bear the approx. 4 mm abbreviation "MIC" (for Mikuni) on their left side of the housing. The small recess in the rotary control has an inner diameter of 11 mm. The 24 liter and SE fuel taps bear the lettering "TAIYOGIKEN" on their backs. The recess in the rotary control has 19 mm here. By the way, fuel taps, rotary controls and other parts are reversed. As a result, left and right parts (especially the rotary control) must not be swapped when disassembling. The right rotary control of the 17-liter fuel tap has a 4 mm raised point in its recess to distinguish it. The 24 liter and SE fuel taps have a small "R" on the boom of the right rotary control.

Greetings Bela. 8/21
