I’ve had it running fine couple of months ago forgot to add plugs seem dry , also new plugs and starter jets added, carb fuel screws 2 1/4 turns out

So you are kicking it over and the plugs are still dry straight afterwards? Both sides dry?
Bad fuel? Blocked jets?

I'd try draining the tank or connecting a secondary fuel supply with fresh petrol TBH.
You can remove the carb bowls in situ and check pilots for any blockages, crap from inside the tank, etc.

Tried starter spray usually works but not this time the carbs are clean all jets clean ?
I’m getting fuel to the carbs ok , how would the ignition fireing on the wrong stroke, I’ve not changed anything ?
Spark advance unit can do funny things. Stuck open would throw timing off.
I've torn the alignment slot on the back and no go, a slight tear could throw timing off.
Clean it up and grease it. Might be worth a look.:)

One of my first steps in a no start is to dry the plugs with a propane torch. REAL dry ie side electrode glowing red. lightly brush when done then reinstall and try with carb cleaner spray.
On the basic no start riff If I've been cranking, kicking for a while with no joy I'll walk away, wait 10-15 minutes then try again. Can't tell you how many times the motor's started on that second attempt after a wait.

I have noticed that also .If I get it wrong kick starting .Normal sub 3 kicks . Choke on
after the one two priming kicks.
I Switch ignition off taking a breather I guess half a minute or so --- reduce the choke from 3 /4 to 1/2
And then ignition on --- go full force kick it mostly starts .
I believe the first failure is to much fuel . The waiting changes it .. I do believe the droplets or so
fall down or whatever .

At times not often the removal of plugs and kicking it over ejects excessive fuel and as Gary says fresh spark surfaces makes a difference :I don't think I ever done it .But instead New plugs

I have had sooty spark plugs all the time . As long as the power supply for ignition is good it will do something
If not start it will make some noise or kickback

Battery low after standstill is one possibility here.

Multiple symptoms are confusing.
In my experience problems with starting a bike that has been sitting
Is battery and gunked up carbs.
Dry plugs would say fuel,
no start with starter spray says spark or timing.
I'll have to throw in another. Load test your battery,
a bad battery can read 12.5V but not have enough oomph behind it.
That one has bit me in the arse before.
Bum kill switch? :umm: might be worth a look, haven't heard about issues with the XS
but it's a thing with HDs.
One thing at a time, you'll get it.
