XS850 carburetors are Hitachi. Acquisition of new parts may prove challenging. I’ve seen suggestions to replace the carburetors with a set from an XS750 as they are Mikuni. The XS650 motorcycles all came with Mikuni, so that is what discussion is about on this forum.

I know there are some fuel tee repairs posted at XS11.club that could provide some ideas. The XS11 also runs Mikuni carburetors.

Thanks for that. You have just given me the reason not to buy one of the seemingly well priced nice XS850's that I see for sale. I like shaft drive. But unobtainable carburettor parts stops me dead in my tracks.

Yes, if you are capable of maintaining an XS850 you can get them extremely cheap, particularly Specials. They were nice bikes, but there is no longer much support for them. XS1100 is a better option and nice examples of those can be found for cheap as well. There isn’t nearly the support as you’ll find for the XS650.

I'm certainly no expert and have zero experience with Hitachi carbs. I will say that the T connectors look very similar to the ones found on our Mikunis. You might search the site to see how people dealt with those. Maybee someone could suggest/link a relevant thread. I would associate gas seeping out the airbox side with float height. Worth a check. Good luck.

Thanks for the thought. In reality, the 650 is getting to be about as much as I can comfortably manage. I have gone from 1200cc to 865cc and now down to 650. I think if I bought an XS850 I wouldn't be able to manage it well at all. I think I'll scratch any thoughts of that, zero carburettor support just makes the decision final really.

isn't there a issue with fitment if I change it? Also they are also very expensive no?

When i bought the bike the seller had rebuild the carb and it was running fine it's just started to leak from the T link and the idle was not set properly

I am not familiar with those Hitachi carburetttors. I have seen a similar T piece arrangement on other carburettors. When it leaks on the ones I have seen, it's because an O ring has failed. I suspect it's a similar arrangement on the Hitachi carburettors. It's a case of measuring carefully to determine the required size. I would try viton O rings. I imagine someone has already done this before but it's been lost in the mists of time.

Edited to add - I think this is the O ring you need, still available as a Yamaha part.

I don’t know. The XS750 might offer fitment challenges, but I’m not qualified to answer that question. If it were mine, I would work with the stock Hitachi carburetors unless it became impossible.

It is a o ring i am pretty sure dont see what else it could be, it's not cracked or anything

You can probably fix the carburetors without buying parts. You might have to get creative to fix the leaking tee.

I Dont know how the T looks inside if there is a O -Ring
if So some chemical can be smeared on at the O ring and I have had good results reusing old O rings
I have Used Plastic Padding red Liquid gasket .. It works surprisingly well
I Dont think you have that brand in USA ..but ask around and go for a known brand Permatex or so
For boating and so The stores can advice
I have good experience of it and friends also if not moving it around to much I believe it will solve it
At least for an evaluation period getting bike to run

I had a mechanic come over and take a look. They installed new sparkplugs, and since I had the airbox removed we taped it and poked some holes in the tape and for the idle undid it so it wasn't touching, and then cracked it and it started for a few seconds and died didn't like run run but cracked ran died in the span of 5secs
