I think there are peeps out there in this community that have cats and not dogs.

That's not to say that dogs are bad...no, dogs are great and have there pluses for sure. I grew up with two dogs and was definitely not a cat person.

However, things change. My wife - then GF - introduced me to cats and it was all good. My opinion is that cats are not aloof or standoffish as some people think. If you interact with your cat (and almost treat them like a dog😳) they will honor you in the same way

When we moved back from Australia, we brought an orange tabby, part Burmese with us...he lived to be a nice 19. Best cat ever!

We have had many other cats since, some living now with or son and our daughter. We said goodbye to our girl Chloe ~8 months ago from kidney disease. But we still have this kid (Martin)...he is 16 and has some issues too, but he's a sweet boy! Not trying to be maudlin, just nice.

I'm a dog person myself, but nothing wrong with cats. Used to have a big black one that people thought was a black panther. Loved him.
That was before current wife... who's allergic to cats.

Got a pic?

I've mentioned it before, but due to wife's allergies, pets are no longer an option. We had dogs for most of our married life and a cat early on. Had to give up cats before dogs as she became allergic to cats first.

If I were to become single again for whatever reason, I'd probably get a cat. Ideally a Maine Coon, budget permitting. Dogs often don't respond well to being left alone, cats don't seem to care at least for reasonable periods.

BTW, I looked up what Maine Coon kittens go for.

NOT happening! I've bought vehicles for less than that.
Yeah, pretty eye-opening. Our current cat - Martin - is ~1/4 Maine Coon and has some of their tendencies (affinity to water, etc), but not the size. Our son's cat - Mr. Kenneth - is ~1/2 Maine Coon and his tail looks like a freakin' fox tail!

Most of our cats have been rescues or shelter cats, but my wife would like our next one (if there is a next one...) to be a Ragdoll, because she had one when she was a little kid. Their pricing is scary too.

Really? We got ours for 30 bucks.

Of course, we're pretty sure he's not 100% Maine Coon.

Pretty sure his parents were a mountain lion and a Maine Coon, and his grandparents included a Wooly Mammoth and Chuck Norris.

Had a lot to do with cats. Had one when I was on the farm that would follow me all round the farm. Would drape it round my neck sometimes while walking around. Beautifully cat, the last time I saw her was in the neighbours dogs mouth, she had gone to have her kittens and the dog must have found them.

The x had cats, persions, simease. Persion cat would hiss at anyone, the Siamese would jump up and open the door by grabbing the round handle in both paws, sliding off putting pressure on the side needed to unlatch the door.

Unfortunately over here in Aus and worse in NZ where we have a lot of flightless birds, cats are not native and the destruction to native fauna is horrific. NZ are micro chipping cats and people are learning to control their interaction with the habitat. Wild cats are far game for the bullet
