I have a 1977 xs650 serial number ending in70-4442
I ordered a new wiring harness and once I started installing I notices a few differences.
My safety relay has a L/B wire out of it which is more inline with the SE model (totally different vin number),new harness has no L/B wire.
Second difference is plug to the cancelling unit
New harness has six wires a W/R is present but not on cancelling unit. The 650D and SE do not have a 6th wire.
My thoughts are at a loss wether I have the wrong harness or who knows
Any ideas out there?

What you have described i.e. no L/B wire on the safety relay and the cancelling unit only having 5 wires (and no W/R wire) is correct for a 650D. The 650E harness/cancelling unit was the same as the D, BUT the safety relay was changed and added the L/B wire; the change enabled automatic headlight control i.e. removed control from the bar switch.

And I can't find a diagram that shows a 6-wire cancelling unit...the connector is a 6-pin, one pin is blank.

Thanks for your reply. One is blank on the new harness side on cancelling unit side there are 6 wires odd wire is W/R.
Also been chatting with Mike's xs where I purchased the new harness.
I have the old harness which was abused by the previous owner but it’s an option to put back if required.

Did you resolve your problem?
My 77, like yours, according to MikesXS, being above production nr 704000, should require harness #24-6575 (those 704000 and below requiring harness #24-6574)
Is this the harness you bought? I ask because I also have a 3 wire Safety Relay and 5 wire Turn Cancelling Unit and am considering the pros and cons of sourcing or making a harness.

Thanks for your help Wagner. I have the 6 wire on the bike side not the new harness of the cancelling unit ,as for work on the xs I’m tailing off for winter as I don’t yet have heat installed in the garage
But good things to come.
My hanes
Manual only has 5 wires also

Change in the harness #'s would be the removal of the brake lining warning light system mid way through the 77 production year

I need to check for you tomorrow on the number but it was the recommended harness from MikesXs
Sorry for the late reply

Does this help

If your '77 is a Canadian model then yes, it would have a L/B wire coming out of the safety relay. There is a '77 Canadian wiring diagram available on-line.

I suppose it's possible that a replacement '77 Canadian wiring harness is not available.
