Well, alot of this is going to be for sale, so any of the purists out there, just let m know what you need.

Gotcha. Which stubs? lol The square tubing was just sitting there removed it today.

Oh, I thought that was a block of wood.
What I'm calling 'stubs' are those 2 short, 6" long verticals that the struts are welded to. The base of those 'stubs', at the base of the frame triangle, will be seeing a lot of stress...

I think I am with you now, but the verticals that basically replaced the springs and shocks on the back.

If so, yeah I tend to agree.

This bike was built and ridden alot but I still need to take a look at it before I put it back together.

I am going to refresh the motor and try and get her running before I start modifying the wiring harness. lol

I am thinking about taking her back to a brat status, so I can run a standard type stock seat where the drop seat is.

Thanks again!

Boy, I tell you what, 54, the wiring harness would be the LAST thing on my mind. You have a terrifying boatload of parts there, every single part will need inspection and/or replacing, a serious challenge even for the highly experienced XS builder. I've done basket cases before, but this one scares me...

lol!

That is me laughing at your fright! Muahahaha!

It was built by human hands and it will be again.

I know this is probably a silly question and with that said, I am totally stereotyping now, but have you ever rebuilt a vehicle that was a basket case?( I am assuming you have; rhetorical question.)

I have done quite a few and this looks like work.

I will admit that I have never totally rebuilt a bike, but I have wrenched on them.

My best friend is well versed in bikes and a great mechanic like myself.

It's only money and time; rights?

The motor scares me a little, but my bud is not worried at all.

I also have great people like you that have been a wealth of knowledge. On top of that I know how to use the search button. lol

Do you need any parts. lol

Yeah, I forgot you have access to Houston industry, large bike shops, machine shops, ...etc. Closest thing to a machine shop around here is a guy down the road that butchers fenceposts and mounts livestock.

Worst basketcase I did was for a GI who transferred back here from Japan. He had his new domestic model `70 CB-750 shipped over, 1 small box at a time, per military restrictions. I ended up with dozens of boxes of random bits and pieces, they disassembled everything, literally, down to the final nuts and bolts. Even the frame was cut-up into box-size pieces. Tires folded up. Glad they didn't cut-up the rims, fork tubes, head, cyls, crank and tank. The valves and such were scrambled into various boxes. Well, you get the idea.

I admire your enthusiasm, but this cowboy has broken too many horses.

I'll watch from a distance...

rofl.....I don't think I will be using an industry for this build.

I have a Hobart 180, Air Force 250, Quincy 80 gal Vert, ScatBlast Media blast with Soda attachment, 12T press, 40 gal parts washer, Dewalt grinders and most of their drills, 3 hp drill press and a few tons of hand tools.

I hope I don't need anything machined. If so, then I don't need it. lol

I am afraid I am going to have to start a thread titled, "What is this and where does it go?"

lol

There's already a thread with that name, most of us run away, far away.

Do you have equipment for refacing valves and seats, reaming guides, boring cylinders, splitting and truing cranks, flywheel puller, large metric sockets, ring gap grinder, resurfacing, oven?

If so, some of us may want your address...

I have very little of that.

I do have a complete set of tools to rebuild vehicle differentials and a myriad of pullers.

I can lap valves/seats, remove valve spring locks, resurface cylinders on some stuff.

No mills, lathes, bridge-ports or anything like that, but I am working on it.

Oven for powdercoating is a definite maybe. Trying to find a bigger place as I have run out of space.

I need to read up on the splitting and truing of cranks; I suppose you mean for recocking for the rephasing.....

As far as my address goes, my shop garage and the associated tools are open to any sane member. lol

I don't loan tools though.

Just for me:

Pamco, e-advance info:

Thanks. With your new setup, will I still need to purchase all the other parts from Mikes? I'm talking about the points adv. rod, breaker plate screws, etc. I know I need a new coil, but I'm hoping I won't need to mess with the other things. I'll be watching the weather in S. Carolina.... CB

Right now, you will need a standard PAMCO, advance rod and three bushings as well as the new advancer. In a week or so, I will be releasing a new PAMCO that is made to work with the new advancer without the duplication of parts to reduce the overall cost of a complete system. I don't have all the particulars right now, but here is a pic of the new PAMCO designed to work with the new advancer:

newsensor.jpg

Notice the lack of parts compared to the standard PAMCO. That will reduce the overall cost for a complete system for new installations

So I'd like to order but I am a little confused.
I have a bone stock 81. What exactly do I need in order to convert my tci unit to your system?

I got my new simplified Pamco + advance installed and running a couple of days ago. I'm digging it. The bike has never run this well, and that is with a very tired original coil. I have a VF1000 3.0 ohm coil coming. I can only expect it will get better. It would be nice to eventually see the advance electronics setup small enough to be incorporated onto the pamco plate or under the cover somehow. Well done, Pete.

Here is a spreadsheet to help choose the right PAMCO kit for you:

mikesxs Kits.jpg

Notes: 1. 17-6903 coil is the "Ultimate" coil
2. 14-0648 to replace the mechanical advancer in an existing PAMCO setup.

Well, the oven would be for removal/installation of valve guides and cylinders (if it comes to that).
Crank work would be needed if your crank is bad. Don't know its history/condition, or how long it's been exposed to gulf coast air, but the appearance of the cylinders makes me think the crank may have been exposed for too long and may not have fared well. Will know better when you pull it.

Well, decided to clean off my biggest wood workbench and commit it to this build.

I laid out the wiring harnesses and got the engine mounted to a pretty little neat stand the PO made.

Decent welder, terrible fabricator. lol

Anyways, I started figuring some stuff out, but not even close to where I want to be.

Pulled the starter and most of the components and wiring off and realized that the kickstart spring was not properly installed.

Fixed that.

That's about it.

Well a little update then mass quantities of pictures for those that asked:

So much for that tire being new.....2004...lol...they just never wiped off the blue....

Ha! You caught that. Also gonna need a front sprocket. Like the Hwy 69 sign, done that one a few times. Years ago I made the mistake of placing my blast cabinet next to the compressor. A year later, had to replace its reed valves.

You need more jackstands...
