i bought a 81 xs 650 well the guy that owned it swapped thw rims for a spoke style. After doing some research the rims are yamaha they are 36 spoke 19inch on the front and 16 inch 40 spoke on the rear. My issue is I have to respoke it on the rear do to broke spokes and i cant find or im not sure if the spokes have been modifed they are abour 3 1/2 inches long from bend to tip does anyone know were I can get these spokes or it seams all the ones I see in picks look longer then 3 inches. Is it possable to modify a spoke by cutting and rethreading

Often spokes have a rolled rather than cut thread. Buchanan's will sort you out for spokes. Remove and measure or send a sample. Check to make sure the left side spokes are the same length as the right side. Original XS rear rims were 36 or 48 spoke.

My issue is they are so rusted they want come out thats why I was hoping someone may be able to tell me were I can get a premade spoke or is there a spoke that is 3 1/2 long or does it sound like its been modifed it is a yamaha rim just unsurw from what model and to no surprise the guy I bought it from want respond to my phone calls im going to post pics

rim picks i know they are yamaha someone has to have a set like this

That may not be a Yamaha wheel. As far as I know, Yamaha used 36 spokes on all their wheels. Kawasaki used 40 spokes so maybe it's a Kawasaki wheel. If it is Yamaha, the 4 bolt sprocket may indicate it came from a smaller model like a 400.

man i have been working my brain to death trying to figure this out i hate to buy new rims for this i tried to test a spoke and rethread one but i found that it is an off the wall dia i have an 8 by 30 and a 10 by 30 and go figure they use a 9 by 30 or a special dia for the threads so tring to cut one and rethread it is out i know i can order them special but 150 is high if i can find what make this came off of this is the one thing stopping me from finishing my build i need all brains on deck for this one here are some pics of the hub and brake set up :banghead::banghead::banghead:

That's just a plain Special wheel. I would think Mike's has them. You could buy a wheel cheap enough from ebay. Since you haven't filled out your profile, no one knows where you live. You might get offers of help from someone that lives close to you. :)

The brake plate may be from a 650 but I don't think the rest of the wheel is. 650 wheels don't use 40 spokes. 650 hubs don't use a 4 bolt sprocket mount. I would just buy a whole 650 16" rear wheel.

Any ideas were to get a 650.rear wheel o yea sorry I live in roanoke va my phone want let me update my profile

RD350..?? laced to a Harley rim

might explain thread die problems..HD used 8 x 5/32 if memory serves me correct
