I have been on this site for over a year now. I guess it is time to post some pics of my build. :D I finally have some money to throw at it so I can continue to put some pics up in a timely manner.
It started as a non-runner 81' XS650.
[/IMG]
Stripped it down.
[/IMG]
Cut the back end off to make way for the Bratt Kit from Visual Impact. I liked the bends as well as the price.
[/IMG]
Bratt rails on with 10.5" Rebel shocks
[/IMG]
Going to use a 3.5 gal Rebel tank. Might have to relocate the petcock to make it work.
[/IMG]
Also putting a Fat Bob rear fender on it & with 3" front fork lowering kit, thanks Hugh.
[/IMG]
Cut off factory mid mounts, welded on the new forward mounts & made a new battery box
[/IMG]
Going to run a 2 into 1 intake & 1.5" pipes with 1.75" chrome tips and 4.5' baffles. The original motor was shot, bent intake vales among other issues. Came across a running 76' engine for the right price that I will use for now. Then when time and money permits I will contact Hugh for a rephase, rebuild the whole thing and bump it to 750 cc's.

Still have to make the side covers, do a lot of polishing, paint and wiring. So, still a bit to go but that is it so far. Hoping to have it together by the end of next month.

Was able to get a little more work done. The plan was to make the side covers removable but when I fabbed up the first side they did not work with the lines of the bike. So I had to scrap that idea and are now welding them on. Got them cut out and tacked on.

The hole in this one is for the ignition switch I am using.
[/IMG]
So much left to do! :yikes:

No problem man. Glad it worked out for you. The current bike Im finishing up, I almost put removable side panels on it like you were thinking about doing. I ended up going a way different route though. Your bike is looking cool so far. That exhaust is gonna be sweet.

Got a little more work done on the build. Have been trying to get some aluminum polishing done while I am waiting for parts. Plus my compressor just died on me the other day. So, I am trying to get done what I can with out it for now while I look for a new one.
I shaved the caliper bracket off the one side and polished up the lower legs.
[/IMG]
Then it was time to tackle the left side engine cover. This is what it looked like when I picked it up.
[/IMG]
And what it looks like after the first round of sanding.
[/IMG]
I also cleaned up the rear wheel. Gave it some new life with a bit of sanding and polish.
[/IMG]
I wanted to get this thing done by the end of the month but that is not going to happen. So, now who knows. Maybe I will get an early Christmas present.

[/IMG]
Also got the left engine cover all polished up.

[/IMG]
Also, shaved some unwanted parts off of the trees. The upper is now ready for had sanding so I can polish it.

Dig the pipes. I'm guessing you have some grinding to do on the welds. Are they arc welded? Been considering welding up a set but only have DC arc. Wondering if it's worth the trouble...

Thanks. Haven't had a lot of time lately for this project. :( Hopefully I will get more done and have new pics to post.
Yeah, the pics are before I ground the welds down. I used a MIG. Haven't used a stick welder in years. The last thing I used one on was a truck frame, and that was hard enough. :banghead: I suppose you could use one although I don't think I would have the finesse to run one on thinner metal.
