I have a 1981 XS650 and I'd like to get the older "flat" style seat. I've seen it mentioned that some have done it with a few modifications to the seat. Anything more detailed out there or other options?

Did a search and couldn't find an answer. I tried removing the lower bolt for my left side shock and I still couldn't find a way to maneuver the guard back in place. It came off the bike when I bought it. Am I missing a trick or something?
