Another XS in the garage

What powder were you using on that seat? Also does your oven have a fan to circulate the air? I know from doing this in the past some powders become more flat or semi gloss without the air circulation.

colors are from powderbythepound.com
seat is a transparent powder called "sun drenched copper metallic"
There powder is usually dead on - flats are flat, gloss is glossy etc...

No fan in the big oven but there is plenty of air flow, there is an exhaust vent in the roof of it and an air inlet in the bottom of the door seal.

Very cool, would you be willing to share what you have into it? Is it double wall with high heat insulation?

I was thinking about getting to house ovens and cutting and joining them into a single unit and the a harbor freight powder gun.

finished the second wheel and then laid on the high gloss clear powder.
check out the color when the sun hits it...
Also got the tires mounted and mocked up the bike.
Should be cool...

Hey hotrdd..
Yeah check out the oven build pics if you didn't already on my blog - chappellcustoms.com
probably got $1200-ish into it, control box was expensive.
Just beware of "cheep" powdercoat guns, there is no voltage adjustment and are really useless for large parts like wheels or a frame. I got away with it until now (barely) but won't be using the eastwood gun anymore thats for sure (harborfreights gun is even worse). New gun system got here yesterday:) now i'm all "pro":D

UPDATE...
Seat tooling has begun, finishing touches and staining is underway, should be done by end of the week!!! gonna be killer!!!

What powder gun did you end up going with? I've looked at used units but they all have huge tanks that take 10lbs of powder min to even use. I'd spend more time cleaning them out just to change powders.

this one.. (from powderbuythepound)
SPECTRACOAT ES02-P
If your looking for one check out there ebay prices... seem to be cheeper for some reason.

Small update...
took some time and distressed the seat today. Going for an old worn out ball glove kinda look.
Just oiling it now, but should look old and cool.

Thanks for the videos. Really shows the love. What tires did you end up buying? I'm in the process of planning my build and tires have me stumped. I want ridable tires with style and a bit more rugged than modern bike tires (but no Firestones). Those look great.
