Crankcase breather

Maybe you are missing the little oil baffle in the head. This can be easily forgotten on previous rebuilds. Mine never had one. Until i read about it on here and added one.
 
I just recently put a shop rag around the outlets to see if I get oil. And no oil. But just in case I do high speed runs it's there to contain the oil mist :)
 
i'm running the power brake as XSLeo. The theory is sound (as my feeble brain see it) because the valve opens and closes on every stroke. The only thing that occurs to me is that the constant pressure may mean the engine will require less than the 2.5 litres of oil to operate at optimum (and to allow for expansion of gases and avoid leaks). I say this because everything has worked well with the power brake but when I topped up with oil I notice an oil leak getting through the left cylinder valve cover. May be a failed gasket, of course, or it maybe the beginnings of the solution to the great mystery of dark matter and dark energy that has eluded scientists for so long - and the answer was here all along in the workings of the XS650.

filo3.jpgA racing setup by Brian Filo. I have seen him race at Barber. He runs it back into the clutch cover. With a check valve, this would be great for sustained high rpm.

Since I just referenced this thread, I have to mention that the setup shown HAS to have an outlet to atmosphere! If you don't, you will blow a seal somewhere on the engine. The clutch cover connection is just a place for the oil to drain back to, it also has crankcase pressure so I am not sure if it actually works as intended!
 
I realize im asking about something that's 5 years old but where can you get a single tube breather from that mounts to the old 2 tube breather spot?
 
80 on was single outlet. I've wondered why no one doesn't spin some out on their lathe.
Pull your double outlet and push the single.in?
 
Right after I posted that I looked on ebay and they had single outlet breathers. First time ive ever seen them on there. I bid on one that says its from a 79. pricey, but I want it so its only money right??
 
I just got a single outlet breather but was wondering if it is supposed to have the perforated screen like the dual outlet breathers have?
 
For those of us that have a single outlet breather, if you want a molded thin wall hose to connect a filter I have an answer for you. Use a breather tube from a Briggs and Stratton vanguard engine. Its part number 806083s. I do maintenance at a golf course and these engines are used in a lot of different machines. you can trim it to fit, its an odd shape but works great!
