On a related topic, a few years ago Mrs and I were in Amsterdam on a cold, clear winter day and we got talking to a young couple from New Zealand. They just could not believe the number of jet trails across the sky. It was true that the sky looked like a board covered in chalk lines and scribbles. I pointed out we were not far from Schiphol, Heathrow, Gatwick, Brussels, Frankfurt and even Paris. Which must be six of the world's busiest airports . . .
FKT / RHINE MAIN. Army post on an Air base, no real problems there, well maybe a little bit of rivalry.:yikes: I was stationed there 20 yrs earlier than this picture. The military side no longer exists, all civilian now :( Good times had by all.

Well, to my untrained eye, that looks like a busy airport.

Big Lift. Clift was a doper and there was plenty in occupied Krautland...the crew had a tough time keeping him straight enough to shoot...ah, shoot the film, not the dope. Speaking of flying ....

An anecdote an old pilot friend told me. He was talking about one of the senior pilots in the airline when he started out, so a long time ago.

Must have been the 1960s or early 70s, this guy had landed at Berlin Tempelhof and had to ask control about his taxi route to the terminal. The controller was a bit sharp with him, she said 'Have you not been to Berlin Tempelhof before?' He came straight back with 'Yes, several times, but always at night and we never went below 12,000!'

You can see the bloke's completely understandable anxiety.

He's tense coz either it's his first - rescue? - and he doesn't know what the yank is like, or he's done it before and knows exactly what the yank is like. Yank here refers to a pulling action and is not intended to cause offence to anybody of N American persuasion. Then you see him duck his head and you wonder what it feels like - waiting to see if you're gonna be clouted on the head by some no doubt heavy hook arrangement swinging at the end of a long line.

Yikes!
