Damn and I was born just 8 days prior to that historic flight.
Well happy (belated) birthday then!!Damn and I was born just 8 days prior to that historic flight.
Thanks, I just find it kind of ironic I'd end up working on them during Desert Storm all those years later.Well happy (belated) birthday then!!
FKT / RHINE MAIN. Army post on an Air base, no real problems there, well maybe a little bit of rivalry. I was stationed there 20 yrs earlier than this picture. The military side no longer exists, all civilian now Good times had by all.On a related topic, a few years ago Mrs and I were in Amsterdam on a cold, clear winter day and we got talking to a young couple from New Zealand. They just could not believe the number of jet trails across the sky. It was true that the sky looked like a board covered in chalk lines and scribbles. I pointed out we were not far from Schiphol, Heathrow, Gatwick, Brussels, Frankfurt and even Paris. Which must be six of the world's busiest airports . . .

Having spent over 20 years working at ATL, it doesn’t leave much as qualifying as a busy airport. At least, not from my perspective.Well, to my untrained eye, that looks like a busy airport.
How about today? Looks like they're still building onto-into it.Having spent over 20 years working at ATL, it doesn’t leave much as qualifying as a busy airport. At least, not from my perspective.
I visited Palmdale acouple of times in the late 80s early 90s. A bunch of those birds were in a secured area (chainlink fence), minus pieces and parts each, near the hangar that had our U2/TR1 platform.Exactly one day after the F111 first flew, the SR-71 Blackbird flew it's maiden flight. they pushed her up to 45,000 ft and 1000 mph. Not bad for a first flight.

One-way bungee jump...
I remember watching this in the John Wayne movie "The Green Berets".
