I need to build a couple of adapters for one of my tanks so I can use non-vacuums taps of a type that is a commonly available pert with either 1/4 or 1/8 NPT, but have been wondering if I need to bother machining an O ring groove of if I can get away with just using a gasket, as you have done. The plates you made look nice, but how are they for leaks with only a gasket? Any problems with that? if not, maybe I will go that route!! Tanks!...uh..I mean THANKS!
As you can see, the gaskets I made are full coverage. The areas on the tank are very flat. Gasket washers under machine screws is standard along with the ring seal. However, I used o-rings at the root of the flat head bolts. I think the groove would be very difficult to achieve. BTW the gasket material is compatable with gasoline.
I made a modification to these fittings. Ideally I would have put a nub on the end of the tube to help seal the hose. Instead I bought two 1/4" compression fitting ferrels and bonded them in place with JB Weld. The ferrels seal the fuel hoses and clamps secures the hoses.
