Polish Forks

Polishing Forks 78E 'Black Betty'
These are the steps I took to clean up the forks a bit on my 78E barn find 'Black Betty'.

As you can see in the first two pics, sitting for 12 years in our extremely humid climate took its toll in terms of pitting and corrosion.

My finishing schedule:
  1. Paint stripper to remove clear coat
  2. Paint stripper with medium steel wool to further remove corroded clear coat
  3. Clean up and smooth pitting with mushroom shaped Scotch Brite buffer
  4. Hand sand with 400 Grit Wet/Dry paper soaked in water
  5. Hand sand with 600 Grit Wet/Dry paper soaked in water
  6. Hand sand with 800 Grit Wet/Dry paper soaked in water
  7. Hand sand with 1000 Grit Wet/Dry paper soaked in water
  8. Buff with White Diamond bar on cotton wheel
  9. Add a little 5twins fork tube bling. M4 x 8mm Stainless Cap Head drain screws.
