this is done by sand blasting the frame sanding the tank to bair metal and leaveing it out over the winter to rust. then when i get the frame with the patenia on it the way i like it i spray wd40 on it. by the way, to rust out this frame it will take more than my life time to do so don'nt be afraid of a little rust.. but on the spokes don't rust the nipples put oil on them and paint. i hope that helps.. sorry i have not looked at this site for awhile so i did not see your question. wayne
