Without the pushrod bearing, your clutch throw-out bearing shouldn't have enough travel to actually disengage the clutch. With an extra pushrod bearing you wouldn't be able to get the left hand sidecover back on without forcing the clutch to disengage.
Pop the sidecover back on and see if...
WRT keeping the axle straight..
My theory is that making the space between the tire and the swing arm even on both sides is a much better estimate of if the rear axle is straight than trying to measure the distance from the zerks to the the axle.

Quick question:
I need the engine number to title my bike in MN. Where is the engine number located on XS's? I looked around a bit last season and didn't find.
Is this true? Would mufflers designed for a much larger engine be more restrictive? I was starting to think that the bike might be running too lean at WOT and to rich at mid ranges from ???
I have an 81SH (BS34). Did the Mikes 1.5" headpipes w/ dynaglide mufflers and pod air filters. The jetting is stock except for 135 mains. The carbs were sync'ed by a shop.
The bike is running a bit rich, I can smell -some- unburned fuel on idle and the plugs are a bit dark but never wet...
