Valve guide seals sob story - need advice

Great advice thanks. We did the top-end rebuild without ever cutting the chain, and remaking it. We were albe to remove the bearings both ends, position the cam lobes carefully, remove the chain tensioner fully, in order to just barely get the cam sprocket just under the chain. Extra hands...

Valve guide seals sob story - need advice

Yes, Thanks for both thoughts. I read thru the procedures for replacing them in the bike, but frankly - we can pull the engine fix this and put it back in about 4 hrs, so I'm not crazy about all the fiddliness of trying to keep the valves held up and making special tools to compress the...

Valve guide seals sob story - need advice

Update: It doesn't really smoke at all at idle. Bike idles really clean end even. When you give it some throttle tho, smoke comes. Is that to be expected with missing valve guide seals? Here is a video of a start to idle and then watch what happens when you hit the throttle.

Valve guide seals sob story - need advice

Just did a top-side rebuild. It was a bike flooded in Harvey, only 9Kmi, generally great shape - except for the flood and sitting 10+ yrs. Started the bike tonight for first time (in maybe more than 10yrs) and ran great, smooth, everything firing, but tons of smoke. Smoke didn't clear after...

Trouble building pressure with new master cylinder

Awesome - thx for pics. I got the MC working using this procedure. Not convinced it is giving the hard feel I wanted yet, but I had a complicating factor that could have let air in the lines, so, could be on me. It squeezes pads now, and doesn't collapse everytime I squeeze it, so...

Trouble building pressure with new master cylinder

Alright guys after some distractions with work, we are back at this problem this weekend. Haven't tried it yet, but will soon. I read thru gggGary's procedure several times, and decided I liked the concept here - it makes a lot of sense. I'm a bit pf a process guy, and I'm also a bit of a...

Trouble building pressure with new master cylinder

Now those are some good suggestions. I like the originality of the reverse bleed by using a full caliper cylinder, but I wonder would this solve my problem - since I suspect my problem is back in the MC itself. I may try highboy's method first, to see if I can get SOME kind of lever on this...

Trouble building pressure with new master cylinder

Yep, that's not it because we bought a brand new Master cylinder and hand brake. Whole thing. Unless they assembled it wrong at factory, it should work correct?

Trouble building pressure with new master cylinder

We recently bought a new master cylinder for the front brake. We have cleaned both lines, rebuilt the caliper, and I have verified fluid will flow from master cylinder thru to the caliper and will run out the bleeder. With the new master cylinder however, I get ZERO feeling of "grip" or...

    XS650 side panel decal?

Thanks guys a ton for all the replies! Looks like there are several options. I really appreciate the ideas here. Regarding Mainman's reply: This seems like a great option. Interestingly, the pics you posted look very much like what my son is going for. He is re-painting the originally...

    XS650 side panel decal?

Hey guys. New poster here. My son acquired a beautiful 77 650XS that had been flooded in the Harvey flood in Houston, and has been rebuilding this summer. Making good progress, and we're looking for a "650" decal, like the one below on the side panel. Does anyone sell one those? I can find...
