    fork oil

All of what you said is absolutely true. But he knows what his forks feel like now whether or not the level is accurate. So returning to what he is currently running is gonna get him in the ball park. As you also stated, going with stock oil level and weight is seldom the right combo. A rider...

    fork oil

If it was me, I'd collapse the forks down and measure from the top to the existing oil level. Then drain and refill to that point with the new oil. Then you can add or remove oil for adjustments. LK

"Do it yourself" bedliner paint for a frame?

Thanks for the input guys. Don't know what I'm gonna do. I'd like to end up with a satin to semi-gloss finish on it which is one of the obvious disadvantages to the bedliner spray. Color choice might be another issue. I'm gonna want to use some of this same color on other areas of the bike...

"Do it yourself" bedliner paint for a frame?

When looking for a "more durable than standard paint" home FRAME finish this idea popped up in my mind recently and I thought I'd ask for some opinions here. Never used the stuff before, many different brands. Added info: Dual sport/tracker style build. LK

    No Rakes

As for the whether a "raked" hardtail look is better, that's completely personal preference. But there is no way that going from stock 27 deg to 32-35deg to 40-plus deg is gonna improve handling. No way, no how. LK

    Alternative bikes of budget build?

I've set my max starting weight for this project at 400 lbs which will throw out all the 4 cylinder bikes (plus the xs650) for this project. The added width doesn't help either. I hear you when you talk about wanting 500-600cc's though and I worry mucho about the smaller twins. But in reality...

    Alternative bikes of budget build?

The only thing I worry about with the older, 2 valve(?) 400-450 cc motors from any of the makers is the lack of power for anything on the highway/freeway. Seems the next generation motors of the late 70's/early 80's had an extra 10 or so ponies and better vibration damping. Do like the idea of...

    Alternative bikes of budget build?

Did I forget to mention that e-start is mandatory? Oh ya, guess I did. Done the XL/XR route already and am wanting something with a little more street biased manorisms and a lower stance. Plus I'm looking for another project I have no time or money for :D LK

    Alternative bikes of budget build?

Looking to do a budget scrambler build and while the XS's (kinda a duh) are near the top of the candidate list I'm wondering what other bikes I should be keeping and eye out for. In town street 50%, dirt and gravel 30%, remaining 20% highway. LK

    2 person Seat Options?

I like that seat. Looks well made and fairly comfortable. But I'm on budget build and the $300 is gonna be tough. So much of a budget build I haven't even told the wife I'm doing it yet. Might not till it's well on it's way as a matter of fact! :D LK

    2 person Seat Options?

I've been looking at seat options for the upcoming tracker build and have a couple thoughts. I see many nice seats for the solo rider but I'm gonna need to have the capability to haul 2 people on this bike. Not often and none of the passengers will be very big but I'll need to haul 2 never the...

A Hello and Options? Options? Options?

Found this site this weekend and am very impressed with the info thus far. A BIG thank you in advance. Gonna be windy to start. A little about where I'm coming from....... I've been riding since the mid 80's, dirt and street, on various bikes including IT's, XL's. XR'ss, SL's, RM's...
