The bike is titled and licensed as a 1978 XS650 in New York State. The 1981 motor was installed 3 1/2 years ago when the tranny went on the 78 - more on that later. This machine has about 38,000 miles on it and the motor is strong. It was just gone over this spring and has been running...
To my Canadian friend: I have a firm buyer who is planning on driving from out of state to pick up the xs650 kit (s) with requested cash in hand. Are you able to move in before then? Or should I let it go as stated?
OK - too bad they shut down the fast ferry, eh? She is in my garage waiting and you have first call.
I need to qualify the first call with "first one here with cash usually wins" but I have no other calls as of yet and will advise you in this forum if I do.
Hey Sparky. I earned the same nickname about 20 years ago when I got knocked out cold by 10,000 VDC from a power supply that could deliver 10 amps. It was for an electron beam evaporation source. I survived.
With all due respect sir - and I appreciate your comments - I am 68 years old -...

When the gears wobble in place it is more than an adjustment issue. If you live hear Rochester ny and want the two machines bring $500 cash and a truck. Only one has title papers
Update on the 78 with an 81 motor. It is done. The local shop pulled the side cover (wet side) and the clutch basket. The first gear is extremely loose and wobbly. And there is far too much gear lash when compared with a similar machine in his shop.
I am divesting myself of this machine either...
Wow!
No I didn't but I will. That is a perfectly good motor otherwise. And I have used the carbs from it on the '81 which made a dynamite combination. The carbs that came with the 81 are in rough shape - all caked up and have to be completely rebuilt.
Thanks again.
Thanks for the reply - it has been backing up just fine same circumstances, but sometimes under high power quick shifts I could get a little slipping. Then the clutch cable broke last week. The new one went in well. But maybe I didn't get it set exactly where it was. I am concerned that...
Out for a wonderful ride in the city - Rochester, NY - this morning. Bike running great. Got in my driveway and needed to backup a bit to back into garage. First gear - clutch in - moved an inch or two and a hard stop - like I hit a curb! Shut down with kill switch - found neutral - backed...
I converted my 78 XS 650 after I let all the smoke out of the rectifier. Rather than send it back to the factory to have it refilled with smoke, I went with the upgrade from Mikes XS650.com. The wiring pieces and harness that came with it were well thought out and the conversion went far...
I have an 81 H model axle and wheel assembly here - let me measure it for you and get back to you later today - I have the spacers too - maybe that is the issue?
I have a complete front brake system unknown condition from a 81H model XS650 - I have no idea what it's worth, but I live in the 14612 area - pm me for details and we can haggle it out on the phone
maybe some folks out there on the forum can help determine the worth of it. I will get some...
