First of all I would like to thank everyone for their input on this topic. I really appreciate all the info. The numbers on the frame are 2F0-05536 and on the engine are 4N9-001448. I wondered about this before because I didn't know if these numbers should match or not.
So to be clear it is a 4" by 4" by 1" black box with 6 wires that come out of it all going to one plug. It is Hitachi and reads TID12-01B on it as well as 4M4-10. When opened there is a circuit board inside. Again it is off of a 78. Pretty sure you guys have already answered what I was asking...
I will be rebuilding my project in the future but in the meantime have things listed on Ebay to sell. Do I need the Ignition Unit to run the bike with a PAMCO and PMA? I would like to sell it because they go for a lot. I'm guessing it is only necessary if running an electronic ignition?
Most of the stuff in this thread except for the front end swap is progress since you had seen it I believe. Hoping to have the hardtail built pretty soon and go from there. Pretty much have a solid idea for the rest of the build. Handlebars are still up in the air but ill wing that once I get to...
So the fit and finish on these bikes is really for shit. After semi-smoothing those tabs I noticed that the slider is not very round at all. Maybe a high fill primer would take care of this and you wouldn't be able to see it under paint or if you are a normal human just wouldn't care. Well I'm...
Here is what a I came up with for the new fork stop starting with square stock I had lying around...
A little finish with the metal work needed still but you get the gist.
Mocked up a tank with some paper. IT will not be so square on the edges when actually fabbed but its a rough...
So here is the bike right when I got her home...
And it actually all started with this, a '74 dt250 roller I got for $60 to use the front end for the xs. I had this for about four months before I found the xs...
stripped down...
front end swapped...
To do this I had to swap the steer...
Alright, I've been slacking on this for a while now and figured I should get to starting this build thread. I picked up a '78 xs650 a few months back for $400 bucks with title. The PO had kind of started to tear it apart. Didn't get very far. Basically took some parts off and cut off a portion...
I've searched on here and have read that people have done this but found little on how to do it. Here is how I did it on the cheap. I put a 78 xs650 steer stem into the triple trees from a 74 dt250 to be able to use the 21" front Takasago rim with a drum brake and make the front end narrower...
